I logged on to Trip Advisor to warn others about my experience at the Homestead Inn - and was shocked to see most had the same poor experience. Not sure what it says about those who found it acceptable - perhaps their level of experience is not as high as most others. Happily, I did not have to pay for the room, I was traveling on business. I log over 100,000 miles a year traveling for a financial services company and stay in hotels of 3 star ratings or higher all over the world. Of course, all manner of hotel experience can and does vary widely, but I have never experienced such terrific rudeness as I did at the Homestead Inn. They seeemed to go out of their way to be mean - and for what purpose? The owner of the Inn was working the front desk for much of my stay - and apparently she sets the example for the rest of the employees. I stayed in one of the rooms outside of the main Inn itself - and while it was comfortable and well appointed, it lacked cleanliness and several amenities you would expect in a hotel of this calibre. When I phoned the front desk to ask for someone to come look at the dirty bathroom I was told that "the room was cleaned, and we are busy". Give me a break! Had I been on a personal trip, I would have checked out right away, but I was there with 2 other colleagues, and we all 3 agreed this was probably the worst property any of us had the misfortune to patronize. The restaurant - while having some high moments, is overrated and overpriced. It seems to satisfy the well heeled local clientele that would rather stay home rather than drive 30 minutes to NYC for something truly good. The service was very slow, rushed when they did appear, and unprofessional. Questions about certain bottles on the wine list could not be answered. I had to laugh at an earlier revue that mentioned a bit of Europe in Greenwich. This isn't Europe at all - it's an American interpretation of a fine hotel where the owners seem to satisfy themselves and not their guests. If this hotel was in Europe - it wouldn't last 6 months.
