Delamar Hotel
I visited the Delamar hotel again and now know the perfect suite there…#306. I almost hate to give this information away. It has a balcony that is see through so you can actually see Long Island sound while sitting down. It has a lovely sitting area and a bath and a half. Some suites have a concrete wall fencing the balcony. The offer of champagne and water when checking in sets a very nice tone. The free coffee and pastry table in the lobby in the morning is perfect for an on the go quick breakfast and the server there is always accommodating. There is a free coffee and latte machine in the library which is always available!
On my previous stay there was a strong perfume odor in the room and hallway that was quite overwhelming. It was evidently caused by the continual use of a rug deodorizer. The smell is no longer a problem. The Manager is extremely accommodating and tries to know his guests and meet their needs. He is quite special and helpful.
The restaurant L’Escale ,which is adjacent to the hotel but not run by it ,is excellent and is not to be missed if you like soufflés. Their black and white soufflé is scrumptious. There is no swimming pool, but excursions to Island Beach can be arranged and their very efficient shuttle takes you the railroad station which has trains directly to New York in 45 minutes.

Room Tip: Rooms farthest from town have the best view on the water side.

Thank you very much for another great review! We are thrilled that you continue to choose Delamar when travelling to the area and we look forward to your next visit. I have to agree Suite 306 is definitely a guest favorite, both in the summer to enjoy the harbor views as well as its cozy fireplace during the winter months!

We stayed at the Delamar for five nights earlier this month - the height of the holiday season. This is a hotel where everything runs smoothly. From the complimentary glass of champagne offered at check-in, to the generous lobby breakfasts, if any corners are being cut, it doesn't show. We stayed on the top floor, where breakfast is also provided, along with all-day snacks and wine and cheeese in the evenings. But you don't come here for the freebies: it's the stunning views across the harbour from beautifully furnished and decorated Mediterranean-influenced rooms. Beds are very comfortable, there is penty of storage space, and if there is a problem, the very efficient front desk sorts it out instantly.
This is not a cheap hotel, but you know that when you book. What you get is a proper five star hotel with instant service and great cossetting. It is maybe geared to upscale business travellers during the week, but couples - as we were - are treated with just as much care. The temperature outside was well in the 90s, but every time we went out, or came back, the door staff would hand us bottles of iced water. There is a complimentary limo service, which we used to run us to the many restaurants in nearby Greenwich Avenue, and to the train station for the 35-minute journey to NYC. The restaurants get very crowded at weekends, and our own efforts at getting tables failed miserably. However, it turns out the front desk have arrangements with many, so they got us in - to the best tables and at the times we wanted. Magic. The Delamar is one of the best hotels we have found in the US - and that's saying something, for we have stayed in literally hundreds in 25 years of vacationing in the States three times a year. We'll be back.

Room Tip: You needn't pay extra for rooms with a view over the harbour. The town view rooms are a little...

We stayed here awhile back for a wedding in the area. We wound up picking the Delamar instead of the Hyatt because the Delamar has a pet program, so you can bring your dog with you to stay. It's an excellent program, comes with amenities for your dog and a portion of the pet program fee goes to a local animal shelter. It's a beautiful, very well tended hotel with lovely views and great rooms. Good workout room (empty, per usual with hotel gyms!) and excellent outdoor bar (perfect for a nightcap or pre-dinner cocktail).

My only gripe is that the valet locked our dog and our keys in the car in mid-July heat and we wound up missing the church service waiting for AAA to come and unlock the door. The staff, however, felt terrible and really went out of their way to make it up to us (including upgrading us up to a room with a balcony and lowering our rate), which was much appreciated.

Room Tip: Get a room with a balcony and harbor view!

Arrived here July 16th, 3rd hotel on a 12 day journey staying at 12 hotels... Have been to Greenwich before but always stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Old Greenwich. Was a bit nervous but once saw spacious parking lot and was greeted by the Front Desk with champagne I knew that I had nothing to be nervous about. Both rooms I had booked were on the club floor facing the water. One a corner room with no balcony, was still fine as the one set of windows is really a set of doors so makes the whole room feel open to the outside if you want it to be. The second room had a very nice balcony. On arriving on the club floor there is a little table with wine and cheese in the evening and juices in the morning and around the corner towards the rooms is a little alcove with a coffee machine and then some sweets in the the evening and breads and a little breakfast spread in the morning. Since we didn't feel like going to one of the restaurants on Greenwich Ave or to Valbella. we decided to eat in the restaurant attached to but not owned by the hotel.>>! It should not be there if this hotel wants to keep its status as an amazing hotel.
The hostess was horrible as if we were bothering her.. made us wait 20 min even though the hotel called and made reservations for us. I was amazed how busy it was with the Greenwich crowd as the service was horrible. The waiters all ran away and could barely be bothered to take our order and was impossible to get them back. The food was also horrible and bland.. I never like restaurants that dim the lights so much for atmosphere that I can't really even see my food.
Was not the worst dining experience I've had in Greenwich but far from the best. Was just really strange for a restaurant. Other than that a beautiful hotel with wonderful water views...

Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review. I am glad to hear you enjoyed your hotel experience and took advantage of all the amenities on our Belvedere Floor. With regards to the restaurant, the vast majority of our guests have only positive things to say and I believe your feedback is not typical of one's dining experience at L'escale. That said, sometimes mistakes do happen and I will pass your comments on to the restaurant Owner/ Management for their review.
We look forward to welcoming you back to Delamar soon.

My husband and I stayed in the Delamar for 9 days in July when we drove the kid to camp in upstate NY. This was our time off and wanted to spend it in peaceful surroundings in a nice place. I found it by looking in different places on the internet. Trip Advisor was very helpful;)))
The hotel is very beautifully located, on the waterfront. It is not too big (100 rooms). The rooms are beautiful and clean. The hotel has a wonderful French restaurant called L'Escale which is packed with people at lunch and dinner. Even if you are hotel guests, it is safer to book a table. The food is extraordinary. It is not easy to find such a great restaurant on the Cote d'Azur!!! The service shows nerds improvement. Clearly they hire kids for the season. Overall a great stay with great memories. High end but worth its price.

This hotel is charming and every attention to detail is taken care of. The staff are top-notch, the rooms are spacious, bathroom is also spacious and every thing is very well appointed. Restaurant serves wonderful food however a walk up Greenwich Ave (just a few blocks away) & you'll find many other options for foodies. Our room overlooked the harbor and had a private balcony. Even though the hotel was busy the room was quiet (great soundproofing). Would definitely stay here again!

I stayed at the Delamar on a two-night business trip this summer and enjoyed every minute of it. The staff is gracious and helpful, my room was clean and well furnished, and the hotel's amenities are plentiful. I also appreciated the property's location - both on the water and easily accessible to the ferries, but near enough to I-95 and downtown Greenwich that getting to and from where I needed to be was simple. I can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Book a harbor-facing room.
