We've been all over the world and visited the top art museums. We also have our own art collection. But it was a gift to be able to stand right up next to some of the best examples of impressionist art: Monet, Manet, Degas, Whistler, Cassat, etc. This huge country estate, built on 250 acres (about 150 remain) and spreading out over 34000 sq. ft. is a visitor's delight. Touring the home and learning it's history along with the original owner's passion for collecting impressionist art was just the appetizer. The many originals, Hung and Ming Dynasty china pieces, old clocks.... The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and able to address even our most esoteric questions. The Hill-Stead is a must see in my book.

We had a wonderful tour on Spring Break. Guide offered great information in a casual, conversational style. Tours can be 30-60 minutes and we felt it was well worth admission.

Home is well maintained and loved. Art work was impressive and to see it in a home setting was really neat. We toured with two teens and they both enjoyed the visit.

Truly a special gem!

This is a wonderful treasure. There is a lot of history in Farmington Connecticut. If you have not already, well worth the time to go visit. There are live tour guides who are very knowledgeable, friendly and interesting. Enjoy!

Worth the special trip to a lovely CT. historic farmstead. The former private home of the daughter of a noted 19th century collector houses a private art collection many cities would be thrilled to display. Lunch by the river at local inn was an additional highlight. Great day trip.
