“Best Japanese in Southeastern Connecticut”
Reviewed February 8, 2007

Nanami is a hidden little gem at Flanders Four Corners in East Lyme -- one of the best restaurants in the area. It has one of the best sushi bars around, with carefully cut, creative sushi. The cut sushi is great and the rolls are different and fun. The chef adds a spicy korean flavor to some of them (like the Chef's roll). The appetizers are also good. If the chef likes you (or you ask), you can get a great spicy salmon or tuna salad, with a delicious spicy sauce. The Lyme roll, with asparagus, is also delectable.
In addition, Nanami has some of the best tempura I've tasted (it's better than, say, Nobu's) and some genuinely great Korean food.
The chef is very accomodating -- if you ask for something off the menu, he will try his best to make it, usually succeeding.
I always stop by on this place when I'm on I-95 from New York.

“Nanami has excellent Korean dishes and great sushi!”
Reviewed October 2, 2006

Nanami is located close off of I-95 in a small plaza and most of the time is not that crowded. Although the restaurant has the typical japanese dishes like teriyaki and tempura, they taste great and are still sizziling when served.
The Korean food is excellent and unlike anything I've ever tasted, especially since I love spicy food. Finally the sushi is also typical but very good. Although there are some rolls that seem to be special to this restaurant, like the house special and nanami special. With sushi the beauty is in the presentation!
The part that I enjoyed the most is sitting in the little rooms that are set up like you're sitting on the floor, which is traditional asain culture. They are private and have a romantic atmosphere. Overall I enjoy going to this restaurant and reccomend it to anyone!

“Fair Japanese and Korean Food near I-95”
Reviewed May 18, 2006

Nanami
324 Flanders Rd, East Lyme, CT 06333
(860) 739-6020
Cuisines: Japanese and Korean

Nanami is located in a strip mall on Flanders road not far from the I-95 on and off ramps (exit 74).

First, the food. You will find typical the typical japanese fare that is found all over the United States: Sushi, tempura, teriaki, etc. In addition, there is a selection of good Korean dishes that are not so typical in the US. The sushi is fresh and generally good though not outstanding or particularly inventive. The korean dishes, especially the soups are excellent and fairly spicy. Of the two, I recommend the korean dishes if no other reason than becasue they are different and quite authentic.

The decor is ordinary though I've noticed at lunch that, for some reason, they like to leave the lights off which makes it a bit dark at times. Prices are about $12-$20 for japanese entrees, $3.50 - $5.00+ for sushi a la carte, and $9-$13 for the korean dishes.

Asian food in the general area is not particularly popular and, thus, this restaurant is rarely crowded.
