Seated immediately; given a choice of inside or on the patio. Although a very comfortable evening, the patio appears to be an enclosure off the parking area so we opted for inside. Comfortable seating; attractive area. Dinner was good. Generous portion of calamari which tasted like calamari, not breading. Too bad a larger side of marinara sauce wasn't served; had to keep asking for more. The fish sandwich was just that - a fish sandwich. Nothing else on the plate other than a toasted bun with a fried filet on each half. Fish was good and not greasy. The kid's fried clam strip made our grand-daughter happy. Again a reasonable portion, clams more than just a fried taste (actually tasted clammy), and nothing special FF. All meals served hot by a mostly attentive waitress. As noted by other reviewers, a little on the pricey side.

First, let’s recognize that this restaurant is wildly popular and for many good reasons. But perhaps, that is the problem. The Sandpiper has mastered the New England fried fish house (the menu offers much more as well by the way). It is that very popularity that the owners perhaps take as validation to leave things the way they are instead of always trying to be a little better. For example, the Rhode Island clam chowder had a superb broth but far too few clams and potatoes. And the bowl was too small. So small quantity, fairly high price and skimp on the ingredients...why? Care a little more. It could have been wonderful. I ordered the fried shrimp dinner. The shrimp were jumbo sized and it is obvious this restaurant changes their oil daily. Bravo! Crisp, clean, delicious. But again, a curious quandry. Only eight...for $22.95. And served on a 9 inch oblong plate (not a full size dinner plate) with a very small baked potato. When I reached for one shrimp, two fell off the plate! And the cole slaw? The plate was too small for it so it was served in a tiny ramekin. So small quantities, an undersized plate, in other words, poor presentation and higher prices for otherwise very good food. Again, why? Care a little more. My partner got the large salad with a very nicely done salmon filet. The salmon was excellent, the salad was fresh and full and fairly priced. But again, another totally avoidable shortcoming. My partner requested olive oil and vinegar. The oil was terrible, low end (almost certainly not olive oil) effectively sabotaging the salad. I am sure the owners know what good a Greek olive oil is. Why this problem ??? Care a little more. It really is a shame because the big crowds get some very good food but with prices near the very top of the traditional seafood house scale, they deserve better. Stop resting on your laurels Sandpiper, care a little more, and be excellent.

Clam Chowder New England style was excellent according to wife. View of the beach outside was beautiful. It is a great atmosphere and we sat in the outdoor patio. I had the Swordfish with asparagus, very delicious. Daughter and her almost engaged man said raw oysters were very good. And he also had the lobster roll and loved it. Carley P was awesome waitress. Local thimble lager was very good. There is also a takeout food/ice cream shop on the corner of the building. Check as it seemed to close earlier than the restaurant. Not overpriced and seasoned well no msg. I would go again for sure.

A “go to” place for lunch or dinner. A nice atmosphere for seafood with open views on Long Island Sound.

A bit pricey for take out but always good. Inside can be quite noisy. Good ice cream too...best to get food to go and sit across street for water view.
