Four of us decided to try this restaurant, hearing about its reputation with tapas. The dining room is spacious and comfortable. We were seated promptly, and had to spend some time perusing the menu which had many interesting choices for tapas, including specials. Among the tapas we ordered were Gambas a la Plancha- five grilled shrimp over chickpea puree- yum! Crab cakes, two very tender crab cakes rich in crabmeat, mussels in a generous portion in a bowl over garlic and white wine sauce which was spicy. The mussels were perfectly cooked and came with a generous, delicious side of French fries. Also, there was an eggplant napoleon with nicely fried eggplant slices over mozzarella cheese and fresh tomatoes- delicious! Even the bruscheta, normally an Italian appetizer, was done nicely. Two desserts- a sponge cake and a caramelized banana with ice cream- were big hits. There is an extensive wine list with largely Spanish wines, many of which are available by the glass.
Service was friendly and professional. Water glasses were promptly filled, and staff was always available to honor requests. Upon leaving, the host even asked us how our meals were.

We'll most certainly be back.

We've been hearing great reviews about Bistro and finally had the pleasure of eating there, we were not disappointed. Everything looked so good that is was hard to make a decision on whether to have tapas or a dinner. We chose to have appetizers and dinner. The Cazuela de Mariscos: Mediterranean seafood stew with clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops and calamari over comfit potatoes was good, the fish of the evening was salmon & there was a bit too much in the stew, I would have rather seen more clams, mussels, etc. The other dinner was a squid ink Paella which was very good. The portiions were a good size and the prices are very good. Service was attentive. We will definitely be going back but this time to have tapas.

Bistro has rapidly become our favorite restaurant in Ct after just 2 visits. On our recent recent visit the food was excellent, the pricing friendly and the service way above average. My wife and I started off by ordering 2 tapas, piquillos rellenos de cordero and berengena rellena de vegetables. The former are Spanish peppers stuffed with lamb and a port Shallot reduction while the latter is a single baby eggplant stuffed with a mixture of vegetables. Both were delicious. We also ordered paella Valencia which contained 2 good sized shrimp, several small mussels, chicken, chorizo and calamari in a delicious seafood broth. Though this dish was not prepared in the classic manner and had too much broth, it was also delicious “as is” and a bargain at only $16. We closed out the meal with a beautifully plated and perfect slice of flan and a complimentary glass of Muscadet. As mentioned by other diners, the staff is very professional yet friendly.

Tonight my daughter and I went to Bistro Mediterranean for the 1st time.We planned on ordering Tapas and salad. We each had a glass of wine with dinner. The wait staff was very friendly , attentive and efficient. The tapas that we chose included the stuffed eggplant, red peppers stuffed with ground lamb, and artichoke and capers tapas, and P.E.I. mussels in a delicious sauce. We marveled on the variety ,distinct flavors, and creativity and freshness of all the dishes. We ordered the Portabella Mushroom salad, which looked liked slices of steak and tasted a bit like it! Delightful- with greens and goat cheese. We couldn't finish it. David, our waiter, refilled our wine,as a courteous gesture. He recommended the banana dessert. We loved it...a banana sliced and coated with a brown sugar glaze,(like on Flan!), with homemade caramel sauce , on the side. It included fresh slice strawberry, blueberries, blackberries, and grapes, and a scoop of the best vanilla ice cream we had tasted!..Then David brought us a small glass of after dinner port to thank us!! He asked many times how our tapas, salad and dessert was. It was a most pleasant experience. We told him how much we enjoyed it all, and we would recommend Bistro to our family and friends. We can't wait to go back! This will be a favorite ! ( I have been to Barcelona in New Haven. While it was good, my husband and I both remembered the much smaller tapas portions. Bistro choices have more variety, creativity, freshness and larger portions , by comparison!) Bistro would be my choice rather than drive into New Haven! I highly recommend Bistro Mediterranean...the decor, music, service and food are wonderful!

Our second visit; our first being about a year ago. Everything we remembered from that visit was repeated this time. Fixe priced luncheon was delicious; the seafood bisque with lobster, scallops, mussels and shrimp was a meal in itself. The lobster ravioli was the real thing - lobster filling that looked and tasted like lobster! And the raspberry panne cotte was amazing and beautifully platted. My husband's empanadas, grilled fish with saffron/mango sauce and flan was equally as good. Many oos and ahs came from guests who had ordered tapas. I know we're looking forward to our return.
