“Hidden Gem.”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

This place is a must try. We tried the steak tartar, cod fritters, the empanadas, the beef, sea food, lamb an chicken satay. We had the Brussels sprouts on top of risotto and the chorizo.

For dessert we had the crepes, flan and rice pudding.

The service is far better than any restaurant in new haven. The attention to detail by our server David was nothing less than 5 star/ diamond service. David made us feel like there was no one else in the restaurant but us.

To have great service am great food all at one time is hard to find these days.

So if you have the time stop by and ask for David to be your server. You won't regret it.

“Service was awful. Food was good.”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

The poor service started upon arrival. Myself and two others arrived an hour before our reservation to have a few drinks. The beer selection was very limited but that's ok. Placing my empty drink on the bar waiting for a refill the bartender walked passed my empty glass 3 times! Never even glanced at me and we were the only people at the bar drinking.
We were told that a few members of our party had arrived, we had a reservation for 12. We entered the dinning room and didn't recognize anybody. It was not our party. A few minutes later we see a few of our party and we took it upon ourself to sit at the large table.
The waiter was kind if rude and frankly a bit of a douche. The food was very good except the lobster ravioli which honestly Tasted frozen. The worst part of the whole meal was that everybody was served their dinner except two people at the table. We attempted to wait of course as our food grew cold we had to dig in. We ended up finishing eating before the last dishes arrived! That's unacceptable! Probably would never go back.

“No need to go in to New Haven for tapas”
Reviewed December 28, 2012 via mobile

Excellent food, service, and prices. All dishes were excellent. I know Ibiza was once labelled the best Spanish restaurant in the country by the NY Times, but this is clearly its equal, maybe better.

“Great Food Reasonably Priced Great Service”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

The Bistro & Tapas Bar is a great addition to East Haven. The food is fabulous. The bar is beautifully designed and our favorite area to sit and have dinner ... or just tapas. Great diversity and innovation in presentation and taste. The staff always remembers you and they are generous in sharing a taste of new wines or a complimentary after dinner drink. Their butternut squash soup is an award winner and their lamb dishes (ravioli, for one) are yummy. Tuna, my favorite, is always done perfectly and their paella is something for which you should be willing to wait. This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant and one we always recommend to anyone who has not tried it yet. Again, very friendly staff...always relaxing.

“Excellent Food, great service, nice atmosphere.”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

I have been here 3 times and each time was great. Food & service were superb and consistent and the place is charming and immaculate. I had the *Pollo Rostisado: Free-range, roasted half chicken served over mashed potatoes and vegetables in a spicy sausage and rosemary sauce.
Delicious. My partner had the Steak a la Parrilla con Patatas a la Pobre: Grilled Rib-Eye steak served with potato comfit, vegetables and a peppercorn sauce. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I highly recommend Bistro Mediterranean.
