We stayed at the Riverwind Inn a few weekends ago. We had a wonderful stay. The house is beautifully decorated and the room was perfect. Leo and Elaine were very friendly and even changed the breakfast for me due to some dietary restrictions that I have. Would definitely return if in the area again!

B&B's can seem the same, especially upon arrival. But our welcome by Leo and Elaine was so warm and friendly that we knew this was a great place to stay. We had just come a previous B&B experience with poor service and Leo and Elaine showed how B&B's should be managed. They welcomed us and got us settled in. They asked if we wanted dinner suggestions. They made several good suggestions and when we made a choice, Elaine called the restaurant and made the reservations. We felt like we were their total focus as their guests. It started a wonderful overnight stay.
Zelda's room is nice. Spacious and comfortable. The attached sitting room is very convenient.
There was little traffic noise from the main road.
The breakfast was excellent.
The neighborhood is delightful.
We would stay here again.

Selected this Inn based on the majority of Trip Advisor reviews and they were right on....great setting, nice accomodations and the owners could not have been more hospitable; the breakfast was nicely prepared and presented.......worth a visit if exploring this part of Connecticut....

With my son in school nearby, we've been checking out various B&B's when we travel to this area. Riverwind is in a great location for us--near the ferry, not too far from the restaurants of Old Saybrook, and close--but not too close--to town. Elaine & Leo were as nice as could be, and I would describe Riverwind as cozy, quiet, and exceptionally clean. Compared to the last B&B where we stayed (in Old Saybrook), I would say that breakfast here was far better and the room was nicer. I've already booked another reservation here for when I return and look forward to staying here again.

The Riverwind Inn and its innkeepers, Leo and Elaine Klevens, have become our oasis from the frenzy of demanding professions and commitments to a large and geographically scattered family. I knew we had something special when Leo and Elaine arranged, while THEY were on vacation, to accommodate our request for a one night stay on a holiday weekend!

The Riverwind's amenities have been well-described in other reviews. The charm (Federal, not Colonial, purist that I am) is genuine but backed up with modern amenities. Rooms range in price but even the lower price end are comfortable, most with private bath. Food by Elaine is scrumptious (breakfast is included in the cost of the room). We've stayed there half a dozen times and never been disappointed.

What sets Riverwind apart is its innkeepers. They are well-suited to their calling, taking an interest in their guests, accommodating late arrivals (our last was 10:30 p.m.), offering guidance to local attractions and making us feel like they were truly glad to see us.

Deep River is in the lower Connecticut River valley and so simple yet enjoyable attractions are close by. Our favorites include the Essex Steam Train (along with its dinner train), Goodspeed Opera House, Chaos (an accessory store), and The Whistle Stop Cafe. Deep River hosts ice cream and antiques, also high on our lists. They nearby Hadlyme Ferry is one of the oldest in Connecticut, taking passengers across to Gilette Castle, built by the 19th century Broadway actor of the same name. Biking, kayaking and hiking are plentiful. There is always lots to do.

We go back as often as we can. You should, too.

Though only half of the house built in 1854, the newer part blends perfectly because of the charming colonial decor throughout. We were amazed by the number of common rooms: a living room with huge stone fireplace downstairs plus 3 upstairs: a sunny reading room with comfy couches, a TV room and a guest kitchen area with mini-refrigerator, microwave, 24 hour coffee and tea maker, table and chairs. Elaine served us delicious breakfasts (e.g. fruit cup, maple and brown sugar baked grapefruit, spinach-mushroom fritatta, apple French toast, sausage and bacon, homemade muffins et al.). She and husband Lew very friendly and helpful in directing us to local sights to see and places to eat. (We lucked out by dining at Gabrielle's in Centerbrook on Monday, when all entrees half-price, and L&E French bistro on Tuesday when burgers are served with free glass of wine or beer.) Inn is conveniently located on main street so we could walk to the few shops, cafes, public library, et al.

Room Tip: Hearts and Flowers room had theme reflected in wallpaper, towels, etc. and was right around the corn...

Authentic bit of colonial charm in Deep River, CT. Huge brick fireplace, comfy guest lounge with sherry in the evening, help-yourself coffee and tea service in the TV lounge, books, puzzles, lots of amenities. Comfy, big beds with beautiful linens. Clean and bright restroom with the most heavenly scented soaps. Fluffy towels, gracious hostess, delicious breakfast. It was everything we wanted and more!

Room Tip: Owner provided a key so we could enter after she had gone to bed, so we had complete privacy and fre...
