The team at this Starbucks tends to turn over slowly and as such, there is a really nice home-town feel to this store. It is located on the banks of the Mill Pond in Cos Cob and when compared to the stores at Riverside, Putnam Plaza or on the Ave., this one is head and shoulders more homey.
The staff here are excellent. The main barista Scot is a Brew-master, has been with the store for quite some time and is hugely popular among the cliental. He remembers all the local folks. However, unlike some other Starbucks where the barista is on good terms with the clients, he does not allow that to get in the way of getting excellent coffee out quickly. There are lines some times but that is simply due to the number of people who like this Starbucks!
The store has been able to maintain a winning streak over a long period of time at least partly because of the quality of the managers who have been running the store. They insist on cleanliness and professional staff. Given the smaller turn-over of the store, the choice of merchandise is always very good as well. Kudos to Jen for keeping things as is. Many of the staff call many of the customers by name and Alex, Brie and Adrian are all well above the quality of the Starbucks employees at nearby Starbucks.
The introduction of the LeBoulange food makes this Starbucks a number 1 choice destination for breakfast. We used to go to the French Pastry store on the Ave. and buy our coffee here. No longer! The one element missing from a perfect place to start the day has been added.
The view of the Mill Pond in Cos Cob from the interior seating area is good and is an added plus. It is a shame that there is not a little bit more seating outdoors but the small park located next door does have some benches. During certain parts of the year, you never know when you need to dodge an errant gosling or a large egret or swan. If you look carefully, you might even see the Great Blue Heron who makes its home down but corner at the outlet to the Mill Pond.
All one needs to do to understand the quality of this Starbucks is to go to the Starbucks at the drive through off exit 6 in Stamford or even visit one in mid-town. Sometimes its hard to believe that they are branches of the same firm.
