“ABSOLUTE PERFECTION!!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 1, 2013

My husband and I were fortunate enough to have spent 2 nights this past weekend at the magnificent Rock Hall. We definitely hit the jackpot!

Driving up to this beautiful mansion just took our breath away. Upon entering the main room, with its magnificent fireplace and many comfortable seating areas, we were warmly greeted by Michael who immediately offered to help us with our bags. After a short tour of the house which includes a board game room, a library with a bar (if you don't finish a book you borrow, just take it and mail it back!), a billards room, another game room with ping-pong, foosball, pinball, etc, and an old-fashion seat movie theater along with a professional popcorn maker and a shelf full of candy!! We then proceeded to our room, Chamber #4, to unpack. The room was spotless and every bit as comfortable and charming as the rest of the house.

Off to the pool - BREATHTAKING! On the way to the pool we met Stella, who was just as friendly and welcoming as Michael. The beautiful, heated pool and jacuzzi are accompanied by a pool house filled with towels, suntan lotion and to top it off: an old-fashioned Coke cooler filled with water, soda, beer - just help yourself. Come 5:00pm, it was cocktails by the pool along with homemade appetizers. The first day we enjoyed delicious shrimp cocktail and the second afternoon a lovely heirloom tomato bruschetta that I'm still drooling over.

Michael and Stella recommended two awesome restaurants for dinner. The first night we ate in Infinity Cafe at the concert hall and the second evening in the Mocking Bird Lane Restaurant. Upon returning to our room at the end of the evening, our towels were replaced and cold water with glasses was placed bedside.

The breakfast was a feast. As someone who loves to cook, I was very interested in all of Michael's preparations. Each morning they serve Michael's house-cured gravlax, a frittata of the day, a sweet of the day, a salt of the day, beautiful breads, cheeses and a rainbow of fresh fruit, plus much, much more. During breakfast the first morning we got to meet the other 8 guests - the Inn only has 5 rooms. It very private and intimate. We also got a chance to speak with Michael and Stella in more depth. They are two of the most fascinating and interesting people I have ever met.

Stella was a like a travel agent with suggestions of places to stop on our drive home. We were sad to say good-bye and end our weekend. However, we knew we would be returning sooner rather than later.

I cannot recommend Rock Hall enough. I would give 100 stars if I could. My husband and I felt like guests in friend's home. The property and its amenities are so fabulous. Stella and Michael were so welcoming and gracious. Thank you to them for a wonderful, relaxing weekend.

Room Tip: No bad choices, nothing negative about this property at all.

My wife and I stayed 2 nights at this beautiful property recently and I can only add to the many accolades already on this site. With only a few rooms, you really do feel like a guest in a mansion as opposed to one of many hotel guests. We arrived in a downpour but were met by Michael who had an umbrella out ready to help us carry our bags into the house. He proceeded to show us around the house and let us know of all the property had to offer. As a sign of things to come by the time we finished unpacking, the sun was shining and my wife and I spent the next few hours lazing around the pool. A nice surprise is when Michael made us each a cocktail and brought out shrimp cocktail to enjoy at the pool. I had one of the best Manhattans I have ever experienced. We then went to dinner at Mockingbird kitchen and bar which Michael had recommended to us in nearby Litchfield, where we had a very nice dinner.
We then came back at night and enjoyed one of the many movies in the movie room where you have a choice of many dvds or netflix. He offered to make us popcorn but we were still too full from dinner to take advantage of that.
We stayed in Chamber 3, which now also has a king bed in it and was very comfortable. The next morning we got up and had a wonderful breakfast that consisted of fresh fruit, yogurt, pastries, cheeses and coffee and then had a frittatta prepared just for us.
After breakfast, we took a hike in the woods on the property then back to the pool for more relaxation. Unfortunately it again rained that afternoon but thankfully we had massages scheduled that afternoon, which we enjoyed in the comfort of our own room and then it was time for cocktails and appetizers, which this time we enjoyed in the library.
We then went to see a concert at Infinity hall, which is around the corner and had dinner there also. After a long night, we collapsed into bed but eagerly awoke the next day for another wonderful breakfast. It was very hard tearing ourselves away from such a wonderful place. I can't recommend this place enough to anyone looking for a nice b and b to experience the good life.

Room Tip: Dont fret too much over which room to choose as they all seem to be quite stunning.

Rock Hall is a fabulous 23-acre estate built in 1912 by architect Addison Mizner, known as “The Architect of Palm Beach.” His signature Spanish Mediterranean Revival style is rarely seen outside Florida, and this secluded, beautifully landscaped property is quite special . . . and very private. You will feel like a pampered guest at a dear friend’s lavish country home, without the stuffiness and formality that might be expected. Indeed, the relatively new owners of Rock Hall said the property was previously well known as a “party house” for celebrities. There’s a large heated pool with a charming pool house for lounging and reading, marked trails throughout the property, a tennis court, and an eclectic gift shop in what was originally a solarium that features local artwork.

Breakfast beneath a grand crystal chandelier in the dining room was delightful, and our host treated us to handcrafted cocktails and hors d’ouevres in the afternoon. There’s also a billiards room and “movie” room to explore upstairs. The interior design is masterful – a stunning mix of antiques and vintage wallpaper.

Room Tip: There's only 4 rooms, and they're all spectacular in their own way.

My husband and I spent 2 nights at Rock Hall this past weekend to celebrate his birthday. The house was beautiful and well maintained to the historical period. We didn't get to meet Stella as she was away but Michael took excellent care of us. He prepared sumptuous breakfasts of fresh fruits, frittata, interesting cheeses and breads. Every detail was perfect (including all the serving pieces!) We also enjoyed cocktails and snacks prior to our going out for dinner each evening which we thought was an extra special touch! He was a wonderful host. They also had a cute, friendly dog that we loved having with us too! It was brutally cold while we were there so we didn't get to enjoy the outdoor grounds very much (it even snowed which blanketed the property and added another layer of serenity). Looked like it'd be nice to spend time there in warmer weather too. The location is good too as everything that you'd want to explore is just a stones throw away. Our only wish for this property was that there were more "cozy" seating arrangements in the room. We were in the renowned Chamber 2 (the old master bedroom) that everyone mentioned. The entire house was beautifully furnished, but as it was so cold outside, we wished there had been a sofa or lounging area in the bedroom where we could "cocoon" in front of the fireplace more in the freezing weather. The only place to lounge in the bedroom was the bed - not terribly horrible as the sheets and bed were amazing as previously mentioned as well. The room was big enough to handle a more comfortable seating area and really that was the only thing we could think of to make our stay perfect. We did also enjoy the game room available and the "movie theatre"! Oh - and my husband received a massage here as well. Go and visit and let yourself be surrounded by the luxury and pampering!

I highly recommend staying at the Rock Hall Luxe Inn! The owners completely understand good food, good drinks, comfort, places to recommend in the area, and lodging. We were there in the winter, and I imagine it's even better in the summer with the wonderful pool, tennis and gardens. It would be a great place to go with another couple too. They have a pool table, ping pong, a cute home theater, and other nice activities to do in the house. There was also a wonderful path to walk in the woods. Activities that we mixed with the Inn were going into Stockbridge for lunch and attending a concert at Infinity Hall. What a fabulous small music venue. I'd highly recommend reviewing their schedule for something you like, and mixing it with a weekend at the Rock Hall Luxe.

Room Tip: They all were great and had working fireplaces.

The things I have to say are in line with the others that have also left 5 stars. Rock Hall is a beautiful piece of history to enjoy a quiet weekend in and the Somers' hospitality, accommodations, drinks, and breakfast were fantastic. I would love to stay again someday.

My husband and I just spent a fall weekend, Saturday and Sunday nights, at Rock Hall. What a fun experience for us! It was my first time staying at a B and B. The large home was amazing and the grounds were beautiful! Plus our hosts, Stella and Michael, were very attentive to our every need.
In the morning an impressive bountiful gourmet breakfast was served in the dining room with a crystal chandelier above the large beautifully set table and a fireplace at the end of the room. It was fun to have breakfast with Stella and the other guests and discuss the prior day's adventures and plans for the new day. In the late afternoon appetizers and drinks were served in the "Pub" which was a fun way to wind down before then going out for the evening.
We would deinitely recommend Rock Hall to anyone looking to enjoy a beautiful getaway for a country weekend in Connecticut.
