A Taste of China was reviewed several years ago in the NY times and got a “very good” review. It is a very nice Chinese restaurant with an upscale décor.

Mon-Thur and for lunches they have excellent values for their special dinners and lunches. As I go to Clinton on weekends, I’m ordering from the full menu. Their prices are reasonable. Depending on how hungry you are (and your drinking habits), you can get a dinner from $40 - $100 for two people (including tax and tip). Drinks are well made, ranging in prices from $6-10 for a cocktail. They also serve some rather unique ales (I’m not ale/beer drinker although many people say they go great with Chinese) which can add to the tab.

Many of their offerings are very typical of any Chinese menu. Items I’ve ordered over the years include Muu Shu Pork, Steak & Peppers, General Tso’s chicken, noodles, fried rice, egg and spring rolls, egg drop soup, etc. None of them have ever proven to be a disappointment. Portions are a decent size. If you have a group of 4 people, 3 entrees would probably be enough. Two would be ok for light eaters. Their noodle dishes are very good and very tasty. Some people think they’re a side dish; they are a full entrée.

If you want tea you’ll have to ask for it. Service is decent to good. Although some of the staff doesn’t speak perfect English we’re almost always able to get what we want! As they are not highly fluent in English, they are pleasant. They do not small talk with the customers but do follow up to make sure things are served.

Meals are always HOT. They put them on sizzling platters which is great…if you’re talking during dinner, it stays warm for a long time. If you want the meal on the spicy/hot side you may have to tell them to make it hotter as I’ve had some items which were NOT overly spicy (that’s ok as I don’t like having my mouth go on fire anymore!)

They do offer some ice cream desserts which are pretty good. I had them one time this summer and it was good. A bit more expensive than an ice cream stand, they are still very good. It was ice cream put in a thick chocolate shell which was very tasty…one would’ve been enough for two full customers.

Chinese but not the normal run of the mill Chinese that you get in every restaurant. Food is different, creative and tasty!

I am not a great fan of Chinese food, but we did enjoy Taste of China. The dishes were abundant, fresh, and tasty. I would go back again.

This used to be my favorite restaurant in this part of the state. While some dishes are quite good, the overall quality seems to be sagging. I recently had a Kung pal shrimp, and it was very disappointing. The shrimp were tiny, and had the consistency of cheap, previously frozen shrimp. There was no kick at all to the dish.

Taste of China is a refuge from the mediocre offerings in Clinton. It rrmained so last night.

Weren't in the mood for a huge dinner; we ordered two simple dishes: sauteed string beans and Mongolian beef. Both were very good if a little too oily (awarning sign?). Service was brusque but efficient. Portions now people-sized, a good change.

This is still the best Chinese restaurant in a 50 mile radius. But, good reader, keep eyes open for any signs of softening at the edges.
