Owner description: This 33,000 sq. ft. restored hosiery factory is the home of the New England Carousel Museum nestled in the heart of downtown Bristol, Connecticut, half way between NY City and Boston. This magnificent, unique Museum is worth the visit. In addition to antique, wooden carousel pieces the Museum has a new working carousel, a carousel restoration workshop,a Museum of Fire History, a Museum of Greek Culture, the Glo Sessions Fine Art Gallery, a changing art gallery, a children's craft center and a gift shop. The Museum is a great place to host a wedding, bar mitzvahs, receptions, performances, dances, meetings and much more with many options that accommodate everything from a bridal shower for 30 people to a sit down dinner for 230 people in our banquet hall.

“Great display of carousel horses and more”
Reviewed October 23, 2012

This quaint place has more inside than we expected. There are many displays of carousel horses in all stages of repair; some are very old and in original condition, some are fully restored and spectacular, and everything in-between. There are displays explaining everything you ever wanted to know about the making of the carousel horses and other creatures. There is even a working carousel and you get a ticket for a ride on it with your admission fee. We stayed here almost 3 hours looking at everything and talking to the friendly and knowledgeable staff. It was a great thing to do on a rainy afternoon in beautiful CT. There is a room showing the restoration work being done by their master carver, and also a small fireman's museum upstairs. Great place for children's birthday and other parties, too.

“Hidden Gem”
Reviewed June 28, 2012

If you love art, history, science, geography , and yes, music, then please visit this museum. The two floors are packed with one of a kind carousel horses, menagerie animals, a working band organ and small carousel. Spend one hour on their tours to get a full appreciation of this dying art form. On the second floor there is a small fire museum ..two museums for the price of one entry. And you may even catch one of the painters working on one of the restorations.
And for the adulrts who crave a great carousel ride, a twenty minute drive into Hartford, you can twirl to your heart's content on the Bushnell Park Carousel which is managed by the museum.

“If you love carousels, you will enjoy”

We genuinely enjoyed the museum and learning about the history and styles of carousel animals. It is a delightful experience. We did not go to either of the other museums included in the entrance fee, so the time you need to allow would vary. Parking is free.

“Unique attraction with classic charm”

The New England Carousel Museum is one of the most unique places to visit in Connecticut. The museum houses a very extensive collection, in addition to having a fantastic permanent collection of sketches and painting by a local artist. The tiny tots carousel is great for kids, and the staff is incredibly friendly. The upstairs is also wide open. Great place for a function. All in all, the Museum is a must-see!
