Years ago we were excited about the arrival of Tuscany Ristorante to the once "Little Italy" area of Madison Avenue in Bridgeport CT. The food was to die for; it transported you back to that favorite meal you had when in Rome or Florence. The owners/hosts were there all the time with smiles on to greet you, make you feel comfortable and to make sure you enjoyed the evening and would be back. The place was small and PACKED nightly.....even tough to get a reservation a week or two in advance....that's how good IT USED TO BE.
Fast forward to September 2011......when I ventured back with my husband to visit an old favorite. Granted we had not been back to Tuscany in over a year (for a variety of reasons) and were a little shocked when on a Thursday night we were the ONLY people in the restaurant............for the entire meal !! By the time we finished our dinners we knew why !!! We might as well have gone to "Olive Garden" for dinner or opened up a can of Ragu at home and poured it over soggy pasta. What once was great was now awful !! Their home made pasta was overcooked (was it really home made).........their sauce wasn't so good (too salty !!) and there was about a gallon of it on the pasta dish. Oh - back up - the ceasar salad had brown "iceberg" lettuce in it - really - how hard is it to use fresh romaine???? My husband's veal chop was a joke - also drenched in a salty brown sauce.
In talking with the waitress - who was lovely (!) - we found out that the owners had sold the restaurant to the their son............what a shame. I don't think it will be open for long.
Not if he continues on with the garbage he served up that Thursday night in September.
