We don't do crowds so weekends are out but on weekdays we often hike the Trolley Line starting at the the Tilcon quarry shipping site near Pine Orchard Yacht Club and ending near the public library in Stony Creek. From there we walk a short block toward the harbor and grab a well prepared lunch at Stony Creek Market, sit on the deck, and enjoy the great view of the Thimble Islands. You can bring your own wine and beer so that can be a real plus. My favorite: the hummus salad (although today it seems a bit smaller than it once was -- seriously, how expensive is hummus?) The simple desserts demand that you give in to temptation. The menu also says there is gelato available: something to look forward to! I know I said we don't do crowds (ie, weekends), but the one time we went on Sunday, we really saw the local fans, loved the smoked salmon with a side of Sunday NYTimes (on sale there)! After lunch, you might want to explore the side streets to the East or around the harbor. It's a great town!

We visited the Stoney Creek Market as the destination point for our Memorial Day motorcycle ride. The Stoney Creek area of Branford is one of those picturesque, out of the way destinations that are becoming harder and harder to find. You don't stumble upon this place... you have to seek it out, but it is well worth the journey. Nestled right on the shore of Long Island Sound, with several of the Thimble Islands in easy view, it's a quiet spot to sit and watch the world (or the water) go by.

Stoney Creek Market is perfectly situated for just that type of thing. We arrived in the late morning hours, and the market was busy but not overcrowded. For a holiday, this was stunning! There were plenty of tables available on the sunny front deck. The deck was newly refurbished, but the furniture had that weathered look of the shoreline.

The food was simply delicious, well prepared, and reasonably priced. The coffee was tasty, and not overly strong. We both chose egg dishes, but there were plenty of yummy looking bakery items, "healthy" choices, an a la cart items as well. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. Our only disappointment, and it's a small one, is that home fries or hash browns are not available.

Be assured, this is a market, and not a restaurant. The menu is written on a large chalkboard on the side wall. Orders are placed at the front counter, and the kitchen is wide open and in full view. Coffee is self-serve, as are cold beverages and the like, and your name is called when your order is ready. None of this is a negative! In fact, it adds to the charm of the place. We felt like locals, or guests in the home of someone lucky enough to live right on the shore. Come as you are, be who you are, and join the family if you like. That's the vibe, and it all works.

While you're there, take a few minutes to walk down by the shore. It's right across the road, and the scenery is fabulous. There are docks, a few quirky little shops, and a boat tour of the Thimble Islands, if you have time to kill. All in all, this was a delightful surprise of a destination. I have no doubt we'll return!

Yes, I really mean it! This pizza is the best I've had in CT and I've had all the New Haven hotspot pizzas. Bring a bottle of wine and enjoy the view.

I usually take a long bike ride from Guilford to the Thimble Islands when the summer is here and I make a point to stop and a grab a bite to eat for lunch. the menu they have could be a little updated to add things like boars head fresh chicken breast or deli items. This is an excellent summer place (not just summer, year round for lunch) for pizza ($30 a pop) bring your drinks is a must as they only serve soda, water, snapple, coffee. the pizza are made fresh to everyone's order but do cost more than your average pizza pie. During the summer months I recommend getting there early as seats do usually fill up for the 3 nights that pizza is served (thurs, fri, sat, and sun after 4pm)

After getting off the Thimble Island cruise this past weekend we walked over to maybe get a sandwich or soup. It was 11:15 in the am and the deck was packed out front. There were a few tables inside, but it was SO hot in there. We stood in line for 15 minutes and decided to get 2 croissants, with the sweat rolling down my back. We asked if they could warm them slightly, i was thinking 15 seconds in the micro perhaps.
7 minutes after ordering they brought them to us, red hot.
They seemed extremely understaffed and since the sandwiches were priced at 8 and 9 bucks, it seemed like a bit too much to me.
Yes, as some said, the view is great, IF you can get a seat on the deck and may i add that those sitting on the deck were in no hurry to get up and give you seat even when they were done eating and just lookign at the paper.
