Mike and Jason have turned this place around! Food is delicious. Clams on the half shell are the freshest I've ever had. The clam chowder is to die for. Great fish specials too. Sunday morning breakfast can't be beat. We love this place and our fortunate to live right next to it!

We recently visited Nellie Green's for the first time. We sat on the deck which overlooks a river that leads to Long Island Sound. Enjoyed watching boats come and go.

We started by sharing a beet salad, followed by two entrees - the cod oreganata and the Rockport lobster cavatelli, and finished by sharing the lemon creme brulee. The food was all very tasty.

We arrived in late afternoon and the restaurant only had a few other diners there. Service was excellent.

One pleasant surprise was that there was some great musical entertainment outside on the deck where we were sitting. Great oldies songs.

Only problem we had was in finding the restaurant. We were using a Garmin to guide us to the restaurant. The problem arose because Garmin routed us to another 50 Maple Street address in Branford. It turned out we weren't far away and when we called the restaurant for directions, we got there in a few minutes.

We went local after an afternoon of paddling. the location on the water was a bonus. All the seafood dishes were very good. Service was good. There is a bar inside. The dockyards are accross the street. Not necessarily a large selection of food but very reasonable pricewise.

I'm awarding Nellie Green's 5 green dots.

Long story short: My vote for the best calamari in the area this season. Try it.

I also had the grilled baby octopus app. Super tasty. The entire creature is present on the plate. Awesome!

The owner came by to check on our meal and explained that everything is served off-the-boat fresh and the burgers have a signature blend of 3 different cuts including oxtail. I mention this because most restaurants offer a burger at nearly $10 that was either a frozen patty or one that was cut from a large tube of ground beef. In both cases, you end up with something very dry. There are very few hand-packed burgers to be had so I'm looking forward to trying the Nellie Greens attempt in the future.. The specials seem to be very creative. A friend ordered a curried mussels dish that looked great and regarded it as excellent.

On both visits, we dined out on the patio and experienced excellent service. On this last visit, our waiter (Ryan) was very passionate about the menu there. He knew all the details and definitely pointed us in the the right direction. We dined on the later side so I wasn't up for a big meal. That said, I went with the goat cheese salad with and order of calamari. The other time, I did the same salad and octopus.

*We arrived by sea and were able to tie up right near the restaurant which was a big bonus.

Loved, loved, loved this place! If it is not too hot, sit outside on the patio for a lovely view of the Branford River. Best blue crab roll ever! Comes on puff pastry instead of a bun, soooo good! Excellent martini's and desserts too! Tucked away behind old buildings, you'd never know it was there, but you seriously should give it a try! They have lobster grilled cheese too, enough said!
