The Old Church, Horncliffe
Ranked #1 of 1 Horncliffe B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 2, 2013

The Old Church is exciting architecturally yet totally restful. Fiona and Trevor have got it just right in terms of their hospitality, from the warm welcome, the advice about where to eat and where to go, through to the home-made and locally sourced goodies at breakfast. Quiet and comfortable, with a real wow factor.

The welcome at the Old Church could not have been any better. The building is lovely and has a very tranquil feel. The only sounds we could hear from our room was birdsong. Comfy bed with pretty bed linen, fluffy bathrobes and a classy bathroom all helped us to feel incredibly relaxed.
Everything we could want or need was laid on, all very thoughtfully done. Breakfast was beautifully cooked and well presented. Full scottish one day and smoked haddock the next. High quality ingredients and very tasty indeed - we were sad we weren't staying longer!
Our hosts were delightful, friendly and welcoming. Just the right combination to help us feel welcomed in and relaxed. We will certainly be visiting again!

We spent most of our time at the beach. Spittal beach is lovely and there are some rock pools to poke about in and interesting finds if you like beach-combing. Further to the south there are sand dunes where you can sit and watch sea birds diving into the waves. Chillingham isn't too far to the south and is well worth a visit if you are interested in historic rare breeds and a little bit of history.
Food wise, we ate at the Fisher's arms in Horncliffe. The food was pleasant enough and not too expensive, but perhaps stick to pasteurised beer - the draught bitter was a little bit old.
In Berwick we ate at the Queen's Head on Sandgate - Really lovely food. Served with care. Not cheap in pounds, but good value for high quality food in very pleasant surroundings.

The perfect venue + the perfect hosts = the perfect stay. What more can one say?
The Old Church is approximately 10mins drive from Berwick centre, and also offers very easy access to wonderful coastal walks. A great base to tour the area. You can also be in Edinburgh (by train from Berwick) in 45 mins.

The Old Church at Horncliffe is 4 miles from Berwick and good location to explore the area especially the Berwickshire coastal walk. The afternoon tea on arrival was very good and a lovely welcome extended from Fiona and Trevor with information about good places to eat in the evening.
The room was large and comfortable especially the bed with nice thoughtful touches like the fruit board and tea tray.
Breakfast was excellent and freshly cooked and set us up for a day of walking and the side table with fruit and other goodies with bag to take some supplies for the day was much appreciated and we enjoyed the fruit whilst sitting overlooking the sea on the coastal walk. Excellent place to stay at and explore the borders and highly recommended for it welcome and the breakfast.

We arrived to a very warm welcome from Fiona and Trevor. They couldn't do enough to make our stay more pleasant. The Old Church is a beautiful conversion, tastefully decorated and full of Fiona's lovely artwork but with a homely feel to the house with lots of family photo's and a lovely friendly Great Dane, Duke. The room was spotless and comfortable with lots of nice touches such as fresh fruit and bottled water daily. Breakfast was fantastic with a wide variety of hot and cold food with bags provided to take fruit away for the day. As a final touch on paying the bill we were given homemade shortbread for our journey home.

If we are ever in the area again we will definately stay at The Old Church.

Just returned from a three day break at The Old Church, Horncliffe. What can we say apart from first class.

The hosts Trevor and Fiona were both friendly and helpful at all times. They provide extra little touches that just help to make your stay that bit more special than a regular B & B.

The location is both peaceful and tranquil. The actual church itself has been beautifully transformed by Fiona and Trevor. The breakfast was great cant fault it in any way . We particularly like the fact that you can choose what you want, and have your breakfast tailored to your exact requirements.

One last mention to the owners dog Duke what a great amazing nature if you are a dog lover you will love this big guy.

Many thanks, it is always good to know that guests enjoy their stay. I am a bit concerned about the amount of coverage that Duke gets in these reviews - I think I'll get him his own website before his reviews overtake ours! Thanks again.
