I read the only 'Average' review of The Puncak and have to say that generally people need to check their own expectations of a hotel before booking it. We knew what we were going for when deciding to go for an exclusive accomodation in a comparatively remote setting versus a beachfront resort with many more rooms and staff and perhaps in a more convenient location.

The Puncak is a place to relax and unwind and take everything slowly. We chose to stay here knowing that we would have spent the prior 3 days on Mt Rinjani and would just be happy to chill out in a comfortable and quiet place. The Puncak has the most stunning views and gives you the privacy and calm not many resorts can provide. Often you feel like the only people there. And even when you have other guests or staff walking around, it's not bustling or noisy. Everyone gets that you are there to spend some quiet time and will leave you to it unless you need anything.

The owners are very switched-on people who work very hard to keep things to a very high standard. They visit the market everyday to buy the best produce for the food and the lady owner herself does most (if not all?) the cooking. So the result is an amazing spread for breakfast, often leaving you full and satisfied right through to late afternoon plus good quality food if you order lunch or dinner. You need to understand that because of the limited staff (despite there being only 5 rooms), you do need to give enough notice if you would like a meal. But rest assured they will try to do it if you ask. Staffing is a major issue in this part of the world so something needs to give in a small establishment. Saying that, the owners did an amazing job with staff training as everyone there is smiley, friendly and helpful. Indra demonstrated so much initiative in assisting with our needs. We kept asking for more complementary water as it was a really hot day and we were going through our jug very quickly many times. We were a little embarrassed about that but not for once did anyone make us feel that way and it was always a quick 'Yes of course!' with a smile.

The only slight complaint we had was the plumbing in the toilet. We noticed a lot of mothballs and air-fresheners around the toilet area as it is evident the owners are aware of the odd smell issues. We slept without aircon the first night and noticed the occasional stench wafting through. We had the aircon on for the second night and it wasn't as noticeable.

The hotel discourages guests bringing children which is fine as we wanted a quiet time without screaming children. Unfortunately they sometimes have problems controlling their own 4 year old daughter who would usually stay in the reception or their own residence upstairs but was very audible one morning which disturbed the peace and quiet for about 10 minutes. It wasn't terrible and I understand it is difficult to control a young child and it would be wrong to confine her to a room only.

I would highly recommend The Puncak to any couples looking for a quiet retreat.

Dear Guests,

Thank you for your description and comments. Like you wrote, we are working hard, as well as our staff to make from your stay a private and personal experience in a cozy and high exclusive atmosphere. Our successful goal is to be assisted by a limited but efficient staff and this is a daily concern in order to keep a high level of tranquility.

To reply on your slight complaints :
We are situated in an extreme location. Imagine the challenge we had to build this minimalistic project on the top of a hill. There is nothing wrong on the plumbings as we were present when the plumbings were placed during the construction. There is no other alternative then the use of septic tanks build up according to international standards. It happens there is an interconnection with weather conditions, for instance sometimes after rainfall there can be a lightly smell. So far we have this under control and we are very aware and proactive even for issues we cannot always completely control.

Our 4 year young daughter is part of The Puncak. It is our commitment to keep her far away from the guests in order not to 'disturb'. Rarely it happens that she is over enthusiastic and makes some fun. We accept complaints with open hands to improve our accommodation and thus we consider that it would be more wise to talk about hotel issues either then matters which are affecting us in personal way. We would more appreciate if you were talking about this to us directly !
The presence of our daughter has nothing to see with our hotel policy about children.

Kind regards.

stayed here for 5 nights in june and the place is exactly how people describe it , very good in every aspect , the only gripe for me as previously mentioned was the noisy staff only feet away from the sundeck in the kitchen , one day whilst waiting in paradise for the famous sunset the owners 4 year old was making a continuous noise from the kitchen behind the sundeck for over 15 minutes , i stood up and gestured to the staff who were grinning out of the window at me stop b ut took no notice , the owner would not allow this if he was there but he was not as we saw him go out for the evening , this should not however stop you from visiting this magical place .

Dear Dorestboy,

We are thanking you for your review and happy we could fulfill your expectations.
We are apologizing for the noise experienced during your stay.
Our child is not supposed to be in the area of staff. Our staff is clearly briefed about many issues but of course it is not always possible to keep the standards at the highest level.
We were not in the hotel that time, as we are many times having duty to our suppliers and markets. Many times when we are not present, even only for a short time, little things can happen wrong, as The Puncak is only Excellent when we are present, which is not an easy issue.

Anyway thank you again - we are really following up every remark good or lesser good in order to keep - if possible and reasonable - our level of Excellence.

Its only when you leave the Puncak that you realize how good it is. Lovely rooms, decorated with individual stones look out over an amazing view, of the bay below. The experience starts with the welcome drink, beautifully done and carries on with the sunset drink and a breakfast that looks as good as it tastes. Staff are friendly and helpful. On top of a hill, the hotel is only a short taxi ride into town. Its also nice to have a small botique hotel with 5 rooms and lots of individual atention. Thx.

From the moment you arrive until you leave, all the staff are very friendly. Jean-Paul is a very attentive host and always makes sure you're enjoying your stay and has a very warm smile.

The view is absolutely stunning. One of the best we have experienced. The small infinity pool outside the room provides a lovely refreshing g escape from the sun. The loungers are v comfortable and allow you to relax in peace.

The food on offer is excellent although at the top end of local prices. The hotel is a taxi ride from the town and no outside food is allowed so you will be reliant on the lovingly cooked food on offer. Fish curry and homemade beef burger were excellent. Also, on one day, lunch wasn't available as the owners were out and we were only told at 12.30 so we had no time to make other plans. luckily the breakfast is massive so we didn't starve!

If I could change one small thing, it would be for the staff to be a little quieter during the day. The kitchen area is right behind the sun deck and they are quite noisy which disturbs the lovely peace and quiet.

This place is for you if you're after a comfy bed with great views and very friendly staff and like the feel of small boutique accommodation.
