“Great Location, Average Lodging”
Reviewed January 7, 2014

What they don't make clear is that these units are privately owned, so you are renting somebody's home. We were in unit 1615 with a direct view of the Zephyr lift. You could not ask for a better location for skiing.

We arrived to find three bulbs burned out in the kitchen and the toilet full of toilet paper and clogged. They came right away and corrected these issues. After 2 days of no maid service we called to find out they don't do maid service. I guess charging only $800 per night does not leave enough profit margin to provide maid service.

We rented a unit that sleeps 6 but they only allowed one car to park on the property. We had to park our other car an uncomfortably long way up the hill at another hotel.

The restaurants in walking distance were all pretty basic fare. There is rumored to be a fine dining place up the lift (The Lodge at Sunspot) but you needed a reservation. After calling the restaurant several times during business hours and leaving messages we concluded they were either out of business or didn't know how to answer a phone.

The unit was very nice. However, we expected a hotel experience and received nothing close. If you are just looking for a nice clean place near the slopes with no expectations of service for a significant amount of money, this is the place for you. We left very disappointed and will not go back. If you can get a room for about $200 I can see value, but at these prices you feel a bit cheated.

We stayed in room 2008 - oh my - what a dump!
Arrived at noon and ask for an early check in - the semi rude front desk lady advised we are on the early arrival list. At 4:20 I received a call advising our room is ready - check in normally 4 pm - where is the early check in?
We arrived at room 2008 to find ripped up carpet and really crappy furniture and a 27 inch tube tv - no joke. The room was in horrible condition for $280 per night. We "cranked" up the heat but the room never got warm - we called down to the front desk and requested 2 more blankets because the room was freezing - after waiting 3 hours for it to warm up a 600 square foot area. About 30 minutes later a man arrived with blankets - we advised the room is freezing - he handed us the blankets and walked off.
Not impressed - great location as many have noted but the rooms are beat to crap and the staff could care less. Skiing was great :)

I wanted to apologize for your experience and let you know what we are doing to improve the experience for guests.

We have a new rating system for the condos, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. Please visit our website winterparkresort.com for more detail on each of these levels.

Having these levels will help set guest expectation. We are moving towards having all flatscreens in all the units, along with DVD and MP3 docking stations. Keep in mind these are all individually owned condos, so doing these upgrades is up to the homeowner. We have tried to make it as easy and seamless as possible through our property management upgrade program.

I hope you will come back to Winter Park and I would strongly encourage checking our the new rating system and the explanations online.

We stayed at Zephyr over the Christmas period. We booked through VRBO and rented an individually owned condo. This meant that we had the benefit of front desk access, but we had a family owned condo that had been upgraded with some lovely touches.
There was a new sofa, fridge and dishwasher lots of spices and coffee to get us started. I have to sat that the condo was immaculate and we had a fabulous view of the mountain. We were literally steps from the ski lift. I think that this offered far better value than booking through the main website and there were quite a few condos to choose from on the independent site. Credit cards are protected and there are clear agreements. Very easy and good value.
My advice is.... pick your condo carefully, look at the pictures and then you will have a luxury condo on the slopes!

At Zephyr you are paying for a great ski-in, ski-out location. The rooms need renovation and I am not sure where to start. Carpets, curtains, dusty blinds, noisy fan, beds... the list is long. The investors in this property have not kept the facilities in a shape that you would expect. Maybe because people keep coming for the location. When addressed the service we received was average at best. I would not stay here again, nor recommend to friends.

Room Tip: If you don't get a good room, keep complaining as they may find the odd room that has been renov...

5 days, two days of coffee, no housekeeping. We were lied to three times about the housekeeping. New DVD players, without cords. Supervisor Casey RUDE. Sent email to her boss. No response. Spent about $5k and they would not make change for us to do laundry. Wore out comforter. Obvious they do not care about repeat customers. RUDE. Great location. First time to stay at Zephyr. 8th year at WP.

I wanted to apologize for your experience. We have been working with the homeowners on a new upgrade program to try and help get things like the comforter updated. All of the condos are individually owned. I recommend checking out the new rating system as well which is Silver, Gold, and Platinum. I think you may really enjoy a Gold unit next year if you come back. We would love to have you back so we can show you the positive changes and win you back as a customer. Hope you enjoy the rest of the season and thank you for the feedback.

While the property may not be up to date, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The three bedroom condo we had looked over the main plaza at the base of the Zephyr Express - great ski-in/out for race camp. The unit has not been updated in quite a while, but was functional. The refrigerator was noisy. They have 25 watt CFLs in all the lights, so it is very dim even with all the lights on. Pretty clean. The bathrooms all have the cheapest Moen hardware. Good towels. You have to pay for room cleaning if you are staying for less than 5 nights ($43/time). Parking is $14/night. Late checkout is $25. As others have mentioned, the internet service is slow and is frequently interrupted by their authorization software. They could really spend the few bucks it would take to fix that and I would have given it 4 stars.

Thank you for the feedback. I hope we see you again next year and we can meet your expectations. I would recommend that you book a room that is rated a Gold status in our rating system and then we would meet or beat your expectations. The location is great and the skiing that we offer is very dynamic. As the management company we are not in charge of the internet or the frequency, that is up to the building HOA. We will however pass on this information to them and see what changes they can make.

This was the second time we stayed at the Zephyr Mountain Lodge. This time, we stayed in a small suite with a balcony and full kitchen. The room was immaculate and the living area had a nice fireplace.

The clerk on duty, Brandon, was very accommodating. He answered all our many questions with patience and a good sense of humor. Since it was about a week before the ski season began, the lodge was fairly empty and quiet.

The Village shops were all closed (except for one gift shop/convenience store), yet we enjoyed walking around and taking in the wonderful views and fabulous weather.

Off-season prices are reasonable. We've stayed here in the summer and found the prices were reasonable then as well. Prices more than double during the height of ski season, but that's to be expected.

Highly recommend the Zephyr Mountain Lodge!
