Zephyr is right at the base of the Zephyr chairlift - so you don't have to hassle with the bus to the car to get to your lodging. Great hot tubs as well. Our unit could have use some TLC - older appliances that didn't work well as well as cooking utensils that needed to be replaced, but I would stay here again. Winter Park is a large mountain, but the hassle of getting to and from the slopes can really make your trip stressful!

The Zephyr is the closest lodging to the mountain. We were in room 2303.
Positives:
Mountain view...be sure and specify.
Bedroom, bath, living space separate...
Fully stocked kitchen
Lots of windows for natural light.
View was amazing
Fireplace...turns on with switch.
Very quiet...never heard those above or below.
Each floor has a laundry room.
Lockers in bottom floor...great to not have to have gear in room
Underground heated parking
Starbucks right outside
When I needed something like extra towels, etc...no problem
Shuttle service avail...but did not use
Housekeeping service 1 during stay was nice just to tidy things up.
Loved the Balcony

Negatives:
No Wifi in rooms...had to go to lobby to use IPad
The rooms are dated...it is an older lodge.
The condos are individually owned and are maintained by those owners...our couch bed was really awful...but it worked when exhausted.
Wish the rooms had King size beds.

Extra tips: Be sure to order thru Winter Park resort...if you choose to go with an outside service or owner you WILL NOT receive the additional cleaning and attention like a WP guest. I know this because being in the lobby with my Ipad I could overhear the way guests were treated that did not rent thru WP resort. In fact when I asked for more towels they allowed me to have them because I was a WP guest.

Now for Skiing:
Rental shop is just a few steps away.

The children's ski school is at the end of resort but they provide wonderful wagons to put you children and their gear in and help prevent meltdowns.

Plenty of places to eat or grab a snack.

Zephyr lift is just a few steps from the lodge

Food tips: If you can get groceries at a Walmart on the way in it would be wise.
The only store is a couple miles away, Safeway, and the prices are inflated, but convenient for a quick run.

Altitude is rough...be prepared.

We had a great stay...would recommend.

Room Tip: Try to get slopeside and close to elevator.

We were in 1225. Nice condo, everything in great shape. Really comfortable bed and pull out couch. The kitchen wasn't as well stocked as it should be,missing basic things like a pizza cutter, salt & pepper or a dish brush. Individually owned condos, so they are all going to be different but the ones I did peek into looked about the same.

We had minor issues with remote, clogged tub and needing things like paper towels, trash bags and dish detergent but Maintenance and Housekeeping were very helpful in taking care of all issues. The condo wasn't ready when we arrived and we heard that complaint from other guests. Took that time to hit the Safeway in Frasier for groceries and have a couple beers at Lime.

The ski-out is great, straight out the door on the 2nd floor and down to the Zephyr Express. The trail that comes back by the door comes from the Mary Jane side, only green at the end.
So unless you can tackle blue +, you're walking back up the hill with your gear.

There is no daily housekeeping but they will bring you anything you need.

My laptop would not pick up wireless, but each condo has a wired jack. My Nook however, would pick up open wireless.

I'd say we'd be back but remembered why I don't like Winter Park...too much pushing on the green slopes (teaching my kid).

Previously we have stayed at most of the Colorado resorts and visited the region many times. We stayed 5 nights at Zephyr Mountain Lodge from 7th march 2012. This was without doubt the most disappointing lodging we have ever stayed at.

The Zephyr website made a misleading claim about wireless access in all rooms (although the offending web page has since been amended). Our two-bedroom slope side Condo looked tatty and well-used and we found the attitude to guests to be less than satisfactory.

The problems were apparent as soon as we opened the door to the Condo, frayed carpet was the first thing that greeted us. Furniture in the lounge also showed signs of wear. There is not separate desk in the lounge, so if you want to work, you will have to do it on the dining table.

We chose the smaller of the two bedrooms, offering the larger one to our guests. By US standards the room was cramped and what made it worst was the lack of storage space. At first glance the wardrobes seem OK until we realised that one of the cupboards is permanently locked to guests. What we were left with was a 2’6 square cupboard with four hangers. Drawer space is also limited.

The radiator was hanging off the wall in our room, a bedside cupboard door would not close properly and there was an unsightly chip in the bath tub. We never got to use the hot tubs outside as they were always overcrowded after skiing.

Although the slope side position seems appealing, we found it added to the noisiness of the building. During the day you can hear people (many of whom are wearing ski boots, as there is no valet) pounding up and down the corridor and at night the piste groomers roam up and down the slopes into the early hours of the morning.

The water for showers and baths was never very hot to start with and then seemed to run colder with only half a bath drawn.

I took up the issue of the non-existent Wi-Fi with the Manageress. She took a photocopy of the Zephyr web page I was carrying with me. She told me I was the first person who had ever noticed the false claim and said she would think of a way to make it up to me .................... presumably she is still thinking, as I never heard another word from her!

As a final insult, on the day before we left we were waiting for the elevator to go down to our dinner date. When the lift finally arrived, an employee leapt out and grabbed an empty luggage trolley that was standing next to us and barred our entry as he dragged it into the lift. ‘Sorry’ he said ‘you’ll have to call for the next elevator, I need to take this trolley back to the car park’.

It appears luggage trolleys take precedence over guests at the Zephyr Mountain Lodge.

The hotel/condos were excellent, the staff and front desk people were great. Make sure you park in the heated garage though. Accommodations were fine, quiet place and great views of the slopes. The staff was overly attentive and friendly. A great place to stay.

Although the snow was scarce in CO this year, the slopes were groomed well and all were open. Great skiing.

Zephyr is in a terrific location in the Village, and the mountain view rooms have a great view. Our one-bedroom unit was spacious, with lots of room for boots and other ski gear - you don't find that sort of space in a lot of places. The only real issue was it looked like our unit was built in the 80s and never updated. Can't recall the last time I stayed in a non-budget place that had tube-style TVs. This unit had two of them, and the one in the bedroom was tiny! It also had a VCR - again, nice in the 80s. A lot of these units seem to be owned by residents and managed by the lodge for rental, so YMMV depending on the specific unit. Fortunately you don't stay here to watch TV, so the pros far outweigh the cons. Like another reviewer said, the elevators seem to be problematic - one was intermittently in and out of service while we were there. It would be a beating during a busy time of year to deal with that. For us, no big deal, it wasn't really crowded during our week. Overall, we enjoyed the stay.
