Fraser Crossing / Founders Pointe
Certificate of Excellence

Maybe I have become jaded by my increasing habit of staying at "top of the line" resorts and hotels, but I found the Fraser Crossing/Founders Pointe units to be rather dull and much more servicable than luxe.
Winter Park is a great ski area some 90 minutes from Denver. It has primarily been a day skiing area for decades due to its proximity to Denver, but in the past couple years has developed a very nice mountain base area, with restaurants and accomodations.
Founders and Fraser are two condo type buildings, side by side, directly across the road from the mountain base area.
We were there for one night last weekend, and saw units in each building.
The front desk folks, who seem to run at least 3 properties, were very cordial and helpful. The accomodations were clean, and servicable. The studios and one bedroom units were very clean, equipped with very functional kitchen units, and sofa hideabeds for extra sleepers. There is no air conditioning, but fans were provided; fine in the winter, but a little stuffy on a hot summer day.
It would appear that the units were intended for the family or budget minded visitor, as they were certainly not plush or deluxe; rather the units were very nicely "functional". The underground parking was useful, but the endless hallways eminating from the very few elevators were daunting.
Would we stay there again - maybe, if we were watching our dollars and planning on lots of skiing and preparing some meals in the unit to save some money. There is no swimming pool, and we never found the hot tub; really not a lot in the way of amenities. Great skiing access just 150 yds walk to the ski lift, and as I mentioned nice indoor parking and a very accomodating and cordial staff. The area is a popular mountain bike mecca, and this would be a good place to stay if that is your interest as the ski lifts are equipped to carry bikers and their bikes up the mountain to access a wide variety of trails.
It just wasn't our idea of a romantic getaway destination hotel.

Just returned from a few days of biking at Winter Park. Stayed at Fraser Crossing/Founders Pointe. The studio style rooms are perfect for a short trip, kitchen with mini-fridge sink and coffee maker, everything needed. The room itself was very clean, and plenty large for 2 of us. The hotel itself is located directly across the street from the main village and the lifts making it the perfect location for the summer as well as the winter. The amenity deck provided a huge hot-tub, a few grills and adequate outdoor seating for an afternoon barbeque. The only drawback was the provision of a window fan in lieu of an air conditioner which probably does the job 90% of the time, but during the afternoon, the room got a little warm.

Stayed at Founders Pointe in Feb 11 with a group of friends for 2 nights. We chose the apartment due to its proximity to the lifts which was perfect, short 100m walk to the main Winter Park lift.

The apartment itself was tidy and easily fit three guys. The check in process is a bit different as it is all managed through the Zephyr lodge across the road but nothing too difficult. The spa area in the complex was great after a days skiing and was very popular.

Only downside with the location is that there are limited restaurants/bars close by and you have to drive or get the shuttle into the winter park town if you want dinner after 8pm!

Only a few steps to the Zephyr lift....no problem. I would consider it ski in.ski out. I liked the locker room for skis/boards on the first floor so you don't have to carry them to your room. Everything is secure and accessed by your room key. The rooms are awesome. We had a 1bd with a kitchenette. I didn't feel the need to have a full kitchen. The kitchenette has a two burner stove, a convection microwave, mini fridge and dishwasher. It was also fully stocked (dishes, silver ware, etc.). If your on a budget and wanna save a few bucks, go with the kitcenette. Also keep in mind that there is a gas BBQ grill that is fully functional next to the hut tube area. We used the hot tubes everyday after skiing. The only downside to the rooms are that the walls seemes a bit thin. Other than that, everything was first class. The property is located central to the new Village at the Winter Park Base area. Don't even need to leave the resort for anything.........

The accommodations were beyond our expectations. The one-bedroom condo was large, nicely appointed with a wonderful view. The kitchen and bathroom were fully stocked. We really enjoyed the hot tub and our balcony - even though it was below zero! It was an easy walk to the Zephyr lift. The only complaint was our noisy snowboarding neighbors. The party stared at 4:00 PM and continued until 11:00 PM when we called security.
