Reviewed May 1, 2013

Part of the Nova Scotia Museum System, Ross Farm is a great learning experience for families. Features: Restored schoolhouse, farmhouse, mill, cooper's shop, blacksmith, etc., all manned by experienced craftsmen who explain 18th and 19th century techniques. Great displays of old farm machinery, ox pulls, horse and wagon rides, and seasonal displays. Sample the good biscuits, baked every day in the farmhouse.

“one of our favorite places to visit”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

I took my kids to ross farm today, ages 6 and 14. we always have a great time here but today was even better, we had hot chocolate, cookies, pulled taffy, homemade ice cream, helped shovel manure, feed the animals, milked a cow and collected eggs from the chickens. it is a great place to let the kids run off some energy, never overly crowded, the staff are very friendly and knowledgeable of what life was like. we visit a couple times a year.

“Christmas Festival Time in New Ross”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

Last weekend was the annual Christmas Festival in this tiny community, with decorations and turkey dinners and all sorts of activities. The Museum itself is a little working farm with homes and businesses of yesteryear. Although there was not yet any snow, there were horse-drawn wagon rides available with a pair of lovely horses and a friendly informative driver. In the schoolhouse and the wood shop there were roaring stoves and make and take crafts for children and adults alike. The highlight however would have to be Rose Bank Cottage, an original home of the settlement, decked out in fully natural decor from the woodlands and from the crafty fingers of the ladies here who make bright garlands from colourful cotton broadcloth sewn into wee circles called "yo-yos". Here, too, we were served warm spiced apple cider, hot plum pudding with caramel sauce, fruit cake and handsomely decorated sugar cookies in the shapes of little Christmas trees. The animals in the barns and pastures have on their wooly winter coats, and the stable was warm enough for weary travellers, I am sure. Thanks for a welcoming Christmas feeling, Ross Farm Museum!

Hi Karen,

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience here at our museum on TripAdvisor, glad you had a great time! We certainly do have sleigh rides in the winter, they usually start around the beginning of January. (Depending on weather of coarse :)).

Thanks again,
