Hunter's Moon Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #1 of 1 Polgooth B&B and Inns
Reviewed June 25, 2013

We spent five nights at this excellent bed & breakfast home and I have to say, could not fault it in any way. Immaculate, welcoming, well organised, efficient and the food was superb. OK it's at the top of a small steep hill, but easy if you have a vehicle, or if you are young & fit. The local pub offers good food at sensible prices (huge helpings) for your evening meals. I would recommend Hunter's Moon without reservation and can promise that Pauline and Richard Scott will provide you with the best hospitality and professionalism that you will want to visit again and again. The views from their house are superb. It is close to the Eden Project and also the Lost Gardens of Heligan, Mevagissey, Truro and St Mawes. Go and see for yourself.

Thank you so much for your excellent review. We did enjoy meeting you both and naturally we’re delighted that you enjoyed your time at Hunter’s Moon. We’re sorry that you thought the hill to the house a bit of a problem for some people. There is mention on our Access Statement that the drive has a slope, but Chapel Hill itself is a very gentle incline which very few people find a problem, unless they have mobility issues of course. We do hope that anyone reading this will not be deterred from staying at Hunter’s Moon as the house is very accessible and we really are not on the side of a mountain!

Spent 3 days here at the end of May, without doubt Hunter's Moon is the best B&B we have stayed in. Excellent rooms, very spacious and comfortable, our hosts Richard and Pauline were very friendly and helpful. We arrived somewhat earlier than we anticipated, but there was no problem in being shown to our room and we were able to eat our lunch in the delightful conservatory. Excellent breakfast is served, with a variation each morning. The views are beautiful and the garden is a delight to sit in. We hope to come back here! Lynda & Barry, Essex.

Room Tip: Our room at the front had a lovely view over the valley.

We enjoyed a two-night stay here during the early May bank holiday weekend. On arrival we were greeted warmly by hosts Richard and Pauline, who couldn't have been more friendly and welcoming. Richard helped with bags up to our room which was comfortable, immaculately decorated, and had a beautiful view over the valley. There were so many nice touches in the room; an assortment of teas and coffees with a kettle, individual sachets of toiletries in the bathroom, a little pot with cotton buds and cotton wool, a hair dryer; just what the weary traveller who may have forgotten to pack a few thing needs! Outside the room there was also a small fridge if we needed to pop a bottle of wine or soft drinks somewhere to chill. Richard & Pauline really have thought of everything.
On my initial conversation with Richard by phone I happened to mention that the purpose of our trip was an intended move to that area, and when we arrived they had thoughtfully saved a local property brochure for us to take away with us. It's the personal touches such as this that made us feel truly welcomed.
There is a lovely conservatory to sit in which is beautifully appointed with lots of interesting ornaments that Richard & Pauline have acquired. While we were there we were very busy and didn't have time to enjoy the lovely garden with choice of seating areas; hopefully next time we will get the chance to relax more in such lovely, peaceful surroundings.
Make sure you have a good appetite for Pauline's lovely cooked breakfast. Again the high quality of the ingredients and the presentation made us feel very spoilt. There is also toast, cereals and juices if you can manage it all - we couldn't!
The location of Hunter's Moon is very tranquil as it is set back from a village side road in Polgooth and is not overlooked. It is also a 5 minute walk from the local pub which is popular and serves a good variety of food seven days a week. In the bedroom is a book which also lists other local places to eat if you are staying several nights and want to go a bit further afield. There are several other choices for a dinner out within a short drive away.
We will definitely stay again on our next trip down. Thank you Richard and Pauline for your very kind hospitality.

We couldn't fault our stay at Hunter's Moon. The rooms were spotless, with very comfortable beds and lovely bathrooms. Breakfast was beautifully cooked with a slight difference to the English breakfast on each of our three days which was a nice touch. There were plenty of other options if you didn't want a cooked breakfast. Richard and Pauline were very welcoming and Richard's local information on routes/parking etc. was very helpful as was Richard obtaining advance Heligan tickets for us so that we didn't have to queue. Richard and Pauline were especially kind to my elderly mother who loved being spoiled. The front rooms have a lovely view over the village and fields and the rear rooms look over a pretty and colourful garden. The Polgooth Inn has good pub grub and was so convenient that we didn't venture further and ate there each evening, but you need to book for weekends. Don't use the Google Map directions to Hunters Moon though as we did, it takes you to Chapel Hill in Sticker, a couple of miles away, use Richard's directions on their own website. We would definitely return.

This B & B is hard to fault. We stayed two nights in this peaceful location. The room was spacious, the bed comfortable, bathroom modern with a great shower. Richard was super helpful with directions to local attractions. Pauline was friendly and helpful also. The breakfasts were superb. The views from our room out onto farmland were fantastic. An Easy walk to the Polgooth Pub for dinner. This place has everything and is well worth it's four star rating!.
