“Good food and nice people but read your bill carefully.”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

We loved the ambience and food. My husband ordered a fish and shrimp combo basket for $11.95. When the waitress brought it, she noted that the cook only gave him the fish. She apologized and said she'd bring the shrimp. Which she did and it was all very tasty. When she brought our ticket, we noticed that he was charged $15.50 for a fish and shrimp "dinner" and a separate fee of $3.00 for the 3 shrimp. When we asked our server about it - she said, "But you ate it all". She didn't seem to understand why we were perturbed. She said she'd remove the shrimp from the bill - which she did. But still didn't know why we were annoyed at being charged $15.50 when we ordered a $11.95 meal. She told us to just not tip her and call it good. We didn't want to stiff her as she did some work but we didn't want to pay for their mistake either. Not that the money is that big of deal but it was unconventional to say the least. Ultimately, the manager removed the charges and only charged for what we ordered. Again, other than the confusion over the bill, it was delightful.

“Nice selection, friendly staff”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

We've eaten here a few times on our way up to Steamboat Springs and are never disappointed. The service is fast and friendly and my family appreciated the variety of selections available. Rustic atmosphere is charming. My family was so impressed that they suggested we write this review. Overall, very good!

“Satisfying Meals in Walden, CO”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

The River Rock Café in Walden, CO serves basic down-to-earth food which will satisfy hungry visitors to this small town. The scenic 160-mile drive from Fort Collins, CO west to Steamboat Springs, CO takes you through Walden, about 100 miles from Fort Collins on CO 14. The café is in the old west style Antlers Inn on Main Street. Breakfast choices include buttermilk pancakes, eggs with meat, breakfast burritos and French toast. Lunch features many types of hamburgers, BBQ pork ribs, lots of sandwiches, fish or shrimp baskets, steaks and vegetarian dishes. For dinner there are appetizers, steaks, chicken and fish plates with soup or salad and bowls of chili. The bar is separate from the main dining area. This establishment is popular with local folks and visiting elk hunters, fly fishermen and moose spotters. The café is family friendly and welcomes motorcyclists.

“Nostalgic bliss”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

We were on our way from Steamboat Springs to Boulder, through a terrific snow storm and we came across Walden at lunch time.
It was freezing outside and the wind and snow were howling down the main street.
The waitress (I don't know her name but she's married to a state trooper) took our order and was exceptionally friendly.
I was taking photos of the interior and she insisted on taking photos of my wife and I with the bear as a back drop.
The beef lunch was very good and we really enjoyed our short time there The waitress described the rest of our route to Fort Collins and was very knowledgeable about the area.
We had a look at the amazing "western" parlour on the first floor.
A great place to stop over.

My meal was superb. It was the best chicken fried steak I've had in years. Great choice of beers on tap.
