Two friends and I had just finished a 3 day backpack on the CT having covered 66miles and we were hoping for something delicious to fill our bellies with. The Steel Horse was just what the doctor ordered!! Delicious home cooking with incredible chicken sandwiches along with flavorful sides and sauces! Needless to say I will be planning more backcountry trips down this way just for the chance to enjoy this delicious food again.

The food was excellent-a boy expensive-but not unrealistic for such a remote place! The people were very nice too.

We were traveling back from the Great Sand Dunes on a family trip and stopped at the Steel Horse Grill for a late lunch. Truly was not expecting much because it seems like it's in the middle of no-where - but we were all BLOWN AWAY! wow. The food was one of the best lunches I've had in a very long time. The rib-eye burgers were done to perfection and the ribs - OH THE RIBS!! We ordered every side, and loved every last bite. Mac-N-cheese, steak fries, coleslaw, baked beans, potato salad...everything was outstanding.

Seriously - travel out of your way to eat here. It's far an above food I've had at 4 star restaurants in Denver and elsewhere! OUTSTANDING!!

A complete surprise in the middle of no where!
The owner was incredibly friendly, the staff was great and the good was phenomenal!
Free WiFi, great ambiance, soothing respite for a drive from nowhere to a drive from nowhere.
Closest competition is over two hundred miles away, make sure you stop!

If you're tooling south on US 285, plan to stop in the tiny village of Villa Grove, Colorado, for lunch or dinner. The food is great...especially the burgers and beans.

I live just a little farther down 285 in the metropolis (compared to Villa Grove, anyway) of Saguache--and it's such a treat to drive the 19 miles to the Steel Horse.
