Owner description: Considered one of the most extensive and complete Roman villas in England, this structure was occupied from the late second century to the mid-fourth century.

The Roman villa is one of National Trust properties. The new visitor centre is modern which includes a cafe, shop and toilets.
A newly completed wooden building is where you will find the Roman mosaics. The design of the building has been done very well. The walkways inside provide a good view over all the remains. Worth a visit.

On a chilly but sunny April day we spent a good couple of hours wandering round the site taking in the wonders of the site. The mosaics were beautiful and the site well kept. For those chosing not to avail themselves of the audio guides some better information boards would be useful but other than that I have no complaints.

Availing of my National Trust membership i was looking to explore places of which i have never visited before. This was a real treat! Driving off the beaten track amid glorious March sunshine and scenic valleys before i reached my destination....was my first adventure!
A recent £3million refurbishment after major redevelopment was clearly noticeable.Visitors can view the stunning Roman mosaics from the new walkway building. Mini ipad-like technology with headphones really enhance knowledge of the villa.
There is a little coffee shop with sandwiches, soup & cakes. If you wanted something more substantial a drive into nearby Cirencester for a pub lunch added to the day. A stroll around the nice town would certainly bring you back for a return visit. Well worth a look!

The new visitor centre to allow views of the mosaics from above will be amazing. What could be seen was interesting and the staff were very informative. This will be an excellent place to visit when it reopens. I am already looking forward to it.

Cheworth Roman Villa ruins are worth a visit if you are interested in ancient history. Everything is labeled and we were fortunate enough to have an on-site volunteer guide to interpret some of the buildings for us as well. There are massive renovations happening at the moment, (Sept. '11) and when they are complete it will be a 'not to be missed' site. There is a small museum, a shop (of course), an activities tent for children and a refreshment tent as well.
