As always the JW Marriott staff was the friendliest. Our room was clean roomy with a great mountain view. We had a breakfast package that came with a really nice and fresh buffet. They had happy hour daily at the Avalanche Bar, the best strawberry mojito I've ever had. We walked and took the shuttle bus. They had granola bars available all the time in different places in the lobby. It was crowded while we were there but it never really felt like it. There was quite a party going on the weekend at the outdoor pool, live music food and drink specials. While we were there it just had a great fun vibe going on and yet relaxing too. We found the indoor pool and hot tub which was hardly ever occupied. There was also another outdoor hot tub you could only get to through the indoor hot tub and a nice tanning deck. All three were very clean. We had a wonderful 5 day vacation.

Room Tip: You have to go through the spa to get to the indoor pool and 2 hot tubs. It is hard to find but wor...

We just returned home after an extended holiday (4th of July) stay at the Marriott Vail Mountain Resort & Spa. This was our first trip to Vail and as Marriott Gold Members trying to get back to platinum, staying here was a logical choice for us.

At check in we requested an upgrade but none were available since we had already booked a larger lodge room. We had requested a mountain view room which we got...sort of. We had a lovely view of the top of a roof with the mountains in the background. We did have a balcony but it was meant to be shared with the neighbors next door. No privacy and we had to make sure that our balcony door was locked at all times.

The hotel is located at the very end of Vail Village near the Lionshead area. The walk from the hotel to this area is under 5 minutes and there are all kinds of shops and restaurants here. There is also a free shuttle that will take you down to the road to the more central section of the village. I walked it a couple of times and it's a good mile from the hotel (but a very enjoyable walk). The ski lift is nearby and there is a great walking path along the stream that is a must to check out. I walked this around 6 am every morning and it was very quiet and peaceful. A great start to the day!

We had the breakfast buffet at the restaurant on the second floor (can't remember the name) just one morning. At $17 each we thought it was a bit pricey but we wanted a hearty breakfast before heading out to ride horses. The other days we went into Vail Village had had breakfast at a local establishment. There is also a McDonald's on down the road but it was to much trouble to get our car out of valet parking. Which brings me to the parking situation. Valet is is your only parking option. It has it's pros and cons. It is nice to have your car secure, especially when you've been to the outlet mall near Dillon. Biggest problem is that it's inconvenient if you need to retrieve something from your car. I will say that the valet staff was top-notch. Very friendly and helpful.

Housekeeping.....we had problems with housekeeping every day that we were there....and we even tip the housekeeping staff! First day they forgot to leave bath towels. Second day we had no wash clothes. Last day no hand towels. They also did not refill our shampoo and conditioner. Hopefully all oversights and not the norm.

We really wanted to try the outdoor pool but it was very crowded every time we attempted to go there. We could never seem to find any empty chairs until evening when the temperature dropped. We even checked out the indoor pool but the deck was filthy with tracy and left-over food that had dropped to the ground. Very unappealing.

We did love the Avalanche lounge. The staff here was very efficient and friendly and the service was excellent. We enjoyed listening to the entertainers who quietly played guitar and sang in the background. I appreciated the fact that they were not so loud that hubby and I could carry on a quiet conversation and not have to yell at each other to be heard.

Fitness Room.....very well equipped with several treadmills, a couple of ellipticals, one stationary bike, weights, and an assortment of other things. My only suggestion is that they need a clock on the wall. The only clock in the room is an alarm clock near the door and when you are running on a treadmill it can't be seen from where you are. A couple of strategically placed wall clocks would be helpful.

Rooms with "kitchenettes".....our room had a kitchenette which consisted of a microwave, mini fridge, and sink. It is not stocked with anything at all. If you are hoping for toast in the morning, bring your own toaster because all of the drawers and cupboards are totally bare.

In typical Marriott fashion, the beds were VERY comfortable. They have the best bedding of any hotel chain and I can always count on a good night sleep at any Marriott we stay at.

All of our personal interaction with the staff was very positive. Everyone was very attentive and friendly. We would stay here again, but I would bring my own toaster.

Stayed the 4th of July Weekend. Outstanding service started with Kevin Christian @ the front desk during check in. I messed up my reservation and Kevin took care of my mistake. Everybody at the hotel was friendly, wanting to give the best service possible. Accommodations were perfect, hotel was very clean and quiet. I have stayed here probably here 6 times in the last 10 years and this one was the best.

Room Tip: I don't think there is a sub par room at the resort!

We fully enjoyed the mountain views and the hiking trails! The staff was top notch and the property was impeccably manicured. Our room overlooked the Gondolas, the mountain and the river. We will definitely go back again.

Room Tip: Mountain view rooms with a balcony are best.

We stayed 2 nights during the 4th of July holiday and it was our second visit to this welcoming and comfortable property. One of our favorite attributes of this property is the location and easy walking distance to dining, shops and Eagle Bahn ski lift. Or if you don't feel like walking there is a free shuttle bus which stops directly on the street in front of the main entrance and valet every 10 minutes or so. We found all staff we encountered to be very friendly and helpful. There is only valet parking available which on one hand is nice because your car is in a secure and covered lot, but if you forget something in the car it can be inconvenient to wait for your car.

We had a king room with balcony facing the mountain. Our room was quiet and in excellent condition. The bed and pillows were very comfortable and no sag in the middle of the bed. After the maid came, the room was always spotlessly cleaned and used toiletries replaced. We felt we recieved an excellent value for our money and location in Vail and look forward to our next stay.

Room Tip: Request a room with a balcony and mountain view.

My husband and I spent one night at this hotel the week before the fourth of July and could not be any happier. We were greeted by very friendly and helpful front desk staff. We really wanted a mountain view room with a balcony and they were more than happy to make sure that is what we got. Our room was beautiful with a great gas fireplace, a huge bathroom, and one of the most comfortable best I have ever slept on. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, but it was an especialy nice getaway for a couple. Also, the staff in the Avalanche pub were very friendly, which made our experience even nicer.

I can only imagine how great this hotel must be in the winter. This was our second trip in the summer. We were here for a couple of days/nights to celebrate our anniversary. We had a suite with a bath and half that would sleep 4 with a pull out, but we were just 2. It was a great room. It was very quiet, the Marriott bed up to standard, and the mountain view simply outstanding. All the amenities were in place including HD TVs and free wireless internet. The only thing I found missing was a desk. The service was outstanding in all respects; the staff extremely friendly and helpful. The free local Vail bus stops directly in front of the hotel and provides a short ride into the main Vail shopping and ski areas. If you want a first class resort hotel, this will do nicely.

Room Tip: If you can afford it, go for a suite and a mountain view.
