“Great location for skiing”
Reviewed February 15, 2014 via mobile

We have been staying at the Lion Square Lodge for 10 years. The location for skiing is outstanding. Having ski rental in the building with great ski valets makes it so easy. I do not normally comment on personnel but the staff here is excellent. They are always friendly and very helpful. The rooms are adequate. They are all similar but some nicer than others with none being outstanding. The kids love the outdoor hot tubs and pool right at the base of the mountain.

Super awesome things: right by the gondola, friendly- helpful staff (specially the ski valet and luggage & parking guys), beautiful views (if you are facing the mountain), close to Arabelle village, close to ski school and lift tickets, convenience store near by, room-kitchen with new appliances and utensils. Only thing for improvement will be the decor & furniture in the room.

Room Tip: Face the mountain but not the gondola... I would think those are pretty noisy in the winter with all...

The gondola was so close that it was only twenty steps. The rooms and accommodation was definitely five star and all the staff were very helpful.
There were people to carry your skis to the gondola. Front desk staff to drive to any local location. There is a great pool and jacuzzi along with a sauna and exercise room and a very lively restaurant. All in all excellent value, just the greatest time.

Great location for a ski vacation. We had a 2 bedroom condo with 2 sleeper sofas in living area. Our condo was beautifully decorated and well equiped with everything we needed to cook our own meals. Our group of 5 ranged in age from 66 - 86. The staff was exceptional and looked after every need we had. When we first arrived, Max (bellman) took care of everything in getting all of our luggage and skis to our condo. He was so great and helped us again when we left. We can't say enough good things about him. When ever we had a maintenance issue, Tom and Mike took care of things right away. We were very close to the gondola and all the restaurants and ski shops. If we go back to Vail, we will definitely stay at Lions Square Lodge again.

Our first visit to Vail and extremely impressed with this lodge. Room was fantastic with a full kitchen and anything you could want. The staff very friendly and willing to help with anything. We managed to take the wrong power converter and they even helped us out with one to see us through. Blown away by the valet ski service as they carry your skis to the gondola and meet you to bring them back. Although we were close to the hotel lift and vending machines we heard no noise what so ever. Our room opened up to the pool concourse and had a view to the mountain. Recommend a room with a view. We were in the South building which we had no problem with but some of the rooms in the East wing open to the snow right in front of the gondola. Next visit would try for that location.

Room Tip: Choose ground floor east wing room for closer access to the lift

This was our first trip to ski at Vail and, although we did as much homework as possible before booking our lodging, we were a little worried about the accommodations (after being burned a few times on previous ski trips elsewhere). But, boy, did the Lion Square Lodge nail it for us! The staff, from the front desk to the maintenance to the ski valet, really and truly makes this a great lodging experience. Some of the best customer service we’ve encountered. The location of the lodge, in and of itself, is hard to beat as well. You literally ski and ski out from the backdoor of the lodge. Sometimes if you time it right in the afternoon, the ski valet will be waiting at the ski racks at the bottom of the run (saving you a walk to the valet check-in at the front of the lodge). Shopping and restaurants are both literally a two-minute walk away. We stayed in a 1BR/1BA condo which was perfect for a couple over the course of a few days. The only negative things I would have to say is that the bathroom is really small and the ceilings kind of low (since you’re essentially in the basement of the building). It looked out the slopes and was convenient to the pool, hot tubs and sauna. However, it would be great if the flood lights in the back of the building had motion sensors so they wouldn’t shine all night into the bedroom. The Lion Square Lodge made this a great first trip to Vail, and we can’t wait to return next season.

Room Tip: Rooms on the slopeside are very quiet and private. Rooms in the basement might be somewhat claustrop...

The service has been great. We had groceries delivered prior to our arrival. The general store and lions square is a few feet from our front door. We have enjoyed the gym, hot tubs, and pool. The lifts are close. The bus to vail village is a 5 minute walk. This place has it all.
