Description: From the creators of the legendary Sweet Basil in Vail Colorado, comes a fresh, innovative new restaurant. Aptly named Mountain Standard, this rustic and relaxed tavern aims to set a new standard in the Vail valley by using an ancient form of cooking. The majority of Mountain Standard’s menu is prepared via the most primal cooking method: over an open and live wood fire. The only restaurant in the valley to devote themselves to this age-old way of cooking, the food at this exciting new restaurant has rustic, bold and honest flavors, focusing on the purest ingredients in the Rocky Mountain region and beyond.Service, like the cuisine, has that perfect balance of providing a first class dining experience with a more casual vibe. There is no smoke and mirrors here – no fuss – just simple, honest, from the heart service and cooking. The beauty of the creek side location is mirrored by the high energy vibe of this dynamic restaurant. It is this energy, outstanding service, and hand crafted food that enables Mountain Standard to offer a truly unique dining experience, approachable and enjoyable to everyone.

“Dinner outstanding!!”
Reviewed August 27, 2014

We were able to sit outside by Gore Creek and enjoy a most delicious dinner. Our waiter had been with the restaurant since it opened and he directed us to delicious choices, the lamb and steak. We enjoyed the pimento cheese appetizer. I highly recommend it. Another new favorite in town.

“Hip Restaurant, Interesting Menu”
Reviewed August 26, 2014

We came hear for lunch at the recommendation of our fishing guide. We loved the cool atmosphere. It is upscale "rugged" (if there is such a thing). The server was very attentive. I enjoyed my chicken salad and my wife had the salmon. There is a great outdoor seating area overlooking the creek, and they have a fun cocktail and beer menu. I enjoyed our meal, but I was particularly impressed when the manager comp'd our cocktails after I introduced myself to her (and told her that we were there at the recommendation of our fishing guide ). . . this was a very classy and appreciate gesture! We enjoyed our meal and will look forward to our return.

“Protein fest”
Reviewed August 24, 2014 via mobile

Great service and fabulous food. Especially if you are a dyed - in - the - wool carnivore. Recommend the Animal Crackers and any of their tasty hand - crafted cocktails. Be sure to order the Kitchen Sauce first because buying beer for the cooks at the beginning of the meal is the way it should be done. Some of the best Vail has to offer.

“Outstanding Trout!”
Reviewed August 22, 2014

In town to appreciate the Philadelphia orchestra they were wonderful! Topped off the night with a visit to the Mountain Standard. This will be a very simple review, the wine, meal and service was outstanding! I had the trout, in fact most of the guests at our table had the same dish.
I highly recommend that you try this restaurant.
