Description: From the creators of the legendary Sweet Basil in Vail Colorado, comes a fresh, innovative new restaurant. Aptly named Mountain Standard, this rustic and relaxed tavern aims to set a new standard in the Vail valley by using an ancient form of cooking. The majority of Mountain Standard’s menu is prepared via the most primal cooking method: over an open and live wood fire. The only restaurant in the valley to devote themselves to this age-old way of cooking, the food at this exciting new restaurant has rustic, bold and honest flavors, focusing on the purest ingredients in the Rocky Mountain region and beyond.Service, like the cuisine, has that perfect balance of providing a first class dining experience with a more casual vibe. There is no smoke and mirrors here – no fuss – just simple, honest, from the heart service and cooking. The beauty of the creek side location is mirrored by the high energy vibe of this dynamic restaurant. It is this energy, outstanding service, and hand crafted food that enables Mountain Standard to offer a truly unique dining experience, approachable and enjoyable to everyone.

“Chef is magician with soups”

Hung out at the bar fro two nights in late Oct as the town was deserted and this was the only place hopping. For good reason. Besides Donovan, who is a great bartender and most welcoming person in town, the chef who does the soups creates great flavors and I could be spent the week exploring their menu.

Very comfortable place, with a great wine list, good brews, excellent bistro food and a relaxed yet sophisticated vibe were you can just hang out and get a great burger (best onion rings ever!) or a great glass of French white to go with your parsnip soup with lemon zest...ok, I loved this!

Don't know what the place is like normally but given the amount of chefs from other restaurants that I met hanging at the bar, I think I stumbled into Vails best!

“Great addition to Vail scene”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

Went here on a Monday afternoon with my 3 children, after having spent a VERY quiet weekend in Vail. This time of year is dead in Vail, and the day we ate here was wet and cold. We encountered some pretty bad service in Vail that weekend, as though the experienced summer wait staff has left and the experienced winter staff has not yet arrived and they have filled the jobs with anyone who has a pulse. However, not so at Mountain Standard. The hostess and waiter were friendly, attentive, and professional. The restaurant is warm, modern, sleek, and welcoming and the food was very good. Very nice kids' menu and portions. I had a delicious rotisserie chicken salad. This place reminds me, in terms of food , decor, vibe, and atmosphere, of Cherry Creek Grille in CC in Denver, which never disappoints. I found this a really welcome addition to the Vail dining scene, and it fills an overlooked niche. It's in the spot on GoreCreek where Blu's used to be. We will be back.

“Waiter was horrible”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

Everything was great here...except our un fun and humorless young male waiter...ruined the experience. The vibe here is fun, food was good but not as good as Sweet Basil. A table of 8 women with money to spend and our male waiter acted like we were a bother. I spoke with the manager when we left and she was extremely gracious.

“Pretty good”

Cool restaurant but service was a little spotty and menu read better than actual execution. Will give it another try soon.

Terrific night at the bar during restaurant week. Great advice and selection from the guy behind the bar. Good vibe. Stellar food. Had the bone marrow, amazing rainbow trout and a delicious apple crumble.
