Description: From the creators of the legendary Sweet Basil in Vail Colorado, comes a fresh, innovative new restaurant. Aptly named Mountain Standard, this rustic and relaxed tavern aims to set a new standard in the Vail valley by using an ancient form of cooking. The majority of Mountain Standard’s menu is prepared via the most primal cooking method: over an open and live wood fire. The only restaurant in the valley to devote themselves to this age-old way of cooking, the food at this exciting new restaurant has rustic, bold and honest flavors, focusing on the purest ingredients in the Rocky Mountain region and beyond.Service, like the cuisine, has that perfect balance of providing a first class dining experience with a more casual vibe. There is no smoke and mirrors here – no fuss – just simple, honest, from the heart service and cooking. The beauty of the creek side location is mirrored by the high energy vibe of this dynamic restaurant. It is this energy, outstanding service, and hand crafted food that enables Mountain Standard to offer a truly unique dining experience, approachable and enjoyable to everyone.

Did not notice this place on the Vail Village map. Found it by walking around the back part of Gore Creek in the Vail Village. Nice upgraded bistro type. Nice indoor decor low lights nice bar, nice outdoor patio to watch the creek and a little less congested in this area. Smaller menu but good items to choose from, steaks, chicken, fish, good apps. Brought out nice fresh bread. Started with fried green tomatoes. A little heavy in batter but very tasty with a nice zest to it. The dip sauce was a ranch dressing with dill herbs. Also tried the Rocky Mountain Trout. Whole trout perfectly cooked in an oil herb marinade with very fresh snow peas and lime rice which was really tasty. They had a good desert menu but no room.Brandi was a very attentive server and we enjoyed sitting out on the patio with the view and quiet.Got there earlier but noticed you should probably make a reservation if you will be dining later, it was starting to fill up. For the area, the price is right.

My girlfriend and I went to eat at Mountain Standard and were not impressed to say the least. The menu was very upscale with no food options that really appealed to us. Everything was overpriced. I felt judged when we walked in by staff. We left after ordering an appetizer.

Just overall a bad experience. I didn't feel comfortable and our waitress was rude.

This is a great new place in Vail. Our experience was great from start to finish. Smiling hostess sat us at a table half in half out. The restaurant is mostly open which is great, can get a bit cold at night but the servers were more than happy to shut the door to accommodate, even with tables still seated outside. Our waitress was sweet and ended up growing up not to far from where we live. She took time to care about our needs and make many suggestions. The food was great and the staff as a whole made sure we were taken care of. All around a great meal. We will visit again.

It was our last night in Vail and we wanted it to be a bit special and it was thanks to Mountain Standard. We walked by in the afternoon and made a reservation for the evening. Glad we did. Lots of people trying to get in and didn't. Our server Jonathan was excellent. Knowledgeable and service oriented. We had the duck confit stuffed potato skins which were excellent, next an Alaskan salmon and the cheesecake with local Colorado peaches. We chose to split each of these and it was sufficient. We walked away full and considered it the best meal we had this trip. Not a lot of atmosphere but we were there for the food. We will come back.

We had never been to this place, but we stopped by for lunch, because our first choices were all full. This place was full too, but the manager bent over backward to accommodate us. The staff were universally pleasant and obliging, the service was excellent and, most important, the food was wonderful. (Hint to readers: Do NOT fail to order the shrimp and grits!)
Thank you Mountain Standard. You will be our first choice next time we are in Vail.
