Description: From the creators of the legendary Sweet Basil in Vail Colorado, comes a fresh, innovative new restaurant. Aptly named Mountain Standard, this rustic and relaxed tavern aims to set a new standard in the Vail valley by using an ancient form of cooking. The majority of Mountain Standard’s menu is prepared via the most primal cooking method: over an open and live wood fire. The only restaurant in the valley to devote themselves to this age-old way of cooking, the food at this exciting new restaurant has rustic, bold and honest flavors, focusing on the purest ingredients in the Rocky Mountain region and beyond.Service, like the cuisine, has that perfect balance of providing a first class dining experience with a more casual vibe. There is no smoke and mirrors here – no fuss – just simple, honest, from the heart service and cooking. The beauty of the creek side location is mirrored by the high energy vibe of this dynamic restaurant. It is this energy, outstanding service, and hand crafted food that enables Mountain Standard to offer a truly unique dining experience, approachable and enjoyable to everyone.

This a a nice modern restaurant set opposite the river. Decor is inviting and the tables set with space in between. The service was friendly but a little slow considering it wasn't that busy. We had "The Big Salad" which to be fair was enough of a main meal but by US standards wasn't really that big. Having said that it was really good. Nice selection of wines to compliment the food made it a very pleasant lunch.

We had a really good meal here, mostly appetizers but everything very tasty and well prepared. Nice service, and good selection / variety of food. Nice modern atmosphere, a nice break from older restaurants of the area.

This is a nice, laid back restaurant with an okay view of the creek. The decor is inviting and the place, while large conveys an intimate (not cramped) feeling. I really enjoyed the grilled trout and salad I had. It was just yummy. They have a nice variety on their menu. The staff is friendly.

restaurant states they use tenderbelly pork products, which is up and coming purveyor of high quality pork used in denver restaurants, also in other vail restaurants and in arizona. this is not quite the case . they use little if any of their products... concerning when a restaurant advertises products that they do not really utilize.

The new Mountain Standard, from the owners of Vail tradition Sweet Basil, is going to be a winner. It's just not there yet. Super innovative menu, very trendy modern decor, but hit a patch of annoyingly slow service on our visit.

Really hate to go only three stars, but if you're going to charge $100+ for two people, you better be on your game. Menu is truly remarkably creative from starters to mains to dessert. Love the open view to the kitchen. Food quality is very good with pretty massive sized (too big) portions.

We opened by splitting a roasted root vegetables salad with kale and arugula. Very good, just quite rich. Mains included the rotisserie chicken with amazing wild rice risotto plus the porchetta - not a frequently seen dish in the USA and done to perfection on a bed of polenta. Just super rich and hard to finish.

Got off the the wrong foot. Quick, friendly seating then 15 minute wait for water, another five minutes to see a waitress then 15 more to get drinks - 35 minutes from seating to having drinks. Just set a bad tone. Rest of evening was great but the damage was done.

Despite that, we did have a wonderful dinner. We will be back and will recommend. It will be a winner. Just hit the expectation if you're going to charge Vail prices.
