We stopped here on a whim with our dog for dinner. We were really pleased with the view. The restaurant next door charged at least $50 a plate for the same view. Compared to other sit down restaurants in Vail I thought the Tavern was pretty reasonable especially considering the view. We spent about $20-$30 a plate and the staff was very attentive to us and our dog. We both really enjoyed the dishes we ordered.

Good variety of selections and reasonable prices for Vail. Great options for kids menus even offering an adult size side salad. I had the Cuban sandwich which was a good size portion, son had spaghetti and meatballs which was a large portion size for a kid, other son had the prime rib dip and the au jus was very tasty to dip into. Hubby had the ahi burger with pickled veggies and all tasty with healthy portion size. They have a great variety of French fries, garlic fries, truffle fries, sweet potato fries etc.

We ate breakfast during this visit and really enjoyed it. The service was very good. The food came out fast and was cooked perfect. They kept the coffee mug full which is a bonus!!!

Vail restaurants are admittedly expensive, but even by Vail standards $47 before tip is a lot of money for lunch, which included $11 for beer. That being said, we thoroughly enjoyed the BBQ chicken sandwich and the Cuban sandwich. And for a large room, it was surprisingly quiet. We would have dined on the patio but for the threat of rain. The wait staff was attentive, so all in all it was a pleasant experience. Next time in town we might try the Tavern for dinner.

It doesn't get any better than this. Tavern on the Square is at the foot of the hill in Lionshead Village. We were there for a quick bite at lunchtime and had no trouble being seated. We selected the bar rather than one of the comfortable looking tables. the bar gave us a view of the ski slope that was fantastic. Since there is no skiing right now, we had the opportunity to see bikers come down the slopes as well as a beautiful view of the hillside.
So how can you expect a place like this, with such a wonderful setting, be also good for quality of food? Count on it! We started with a plate of chicken wings with BBQ, hot, and teriyaki sauces. They were meaty and tasty on their own but were accompanied by the most fabulous blue cheese dressing, jicama spears, and lettuce threads that had been marinated in something wonderful! I followed that with a fabulous kale salad that was to die for.
Sit at the bar, take in the view, and enjoy a fabulous bite to eat!!
