Loved the hike and really pretty setting for a picnic. Good hike for "hikers" but might be too much for beginners or low landers!

My perspective: 61 yr old guy--not in top shape but walk or bike some most every day. This is a fairly strenuous trip. Some almost stairstep sections. Go 10 mi drive off the main road (CO 24) on Homestake Rd and then a right turn onto 704. Trailhead has decent parking and a restroom. On the way up, you'll have creek crossings--one particularly spectacular one looking up into a canyon. You'll have a breather through a lush meadow and one section where you walk through the canyon on the edge of the fast-flowing creek. At the end (as far as I was concerned) are two beautiful lakes-- make sure you make the extra walk to the second one and take plenty of pictures

geat hike, with incredible views, it is a grunt of a hike, but worth it. Great wildflowers and the lakes with the mountain in the background are to die for.

This is a gorgeous hike. You'll be walking next to a babbling brook for a good portion of the hike. There are even little gorges and waterfalls. At the end of the hike, there are some amazing mountain lakes you won't believe. It's so beautiful. Highly recommend this hike but it is quite strenuous so don't attempt it unless you are up for a bit of a challenge. Start early, from around 6 am to around 8 or 9 am so you can finish before the thunderstorms roll in. 9 am is probably getting a bit late, but you might get lucky and be okay.

A ten-mile loop through the Holy Cross Wilderness Area is heavenly.
