If the weather is bad or you want an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours off the mountain in Vail then check out this museum. Entrance is by donation and they have all kinds of fascinating artifacts and interactive displays on the US history of skiing, boarding, & the 10th mountain division. They also have examples of early ski & board prototypes, US Olympic uniforms and lots of Vail development history.

So interesting to learn more about the history and beginnings of skiing but also snowboarding. Fabulous photos and memorabilia, funny to think I wore some of those hideous 80's ski outfits too!

This is a small museum but very nicely put together--just right for an afternoon while you are adapting to the altitude, or when your muscles are recovering from several days on the slopes. Make sure that you stop (or stop back) on a day when Sandy Treat of WWII's 10th Mountain Division is there to share his experiences. The gift shop is filled with affordable and pleasing souvenirs of your trip--better than most places in town! No entry fees, but a donation is suggested.

We had been meaning to visit the museum for years, but always seemed to put it off! - So we were glad when we eventually did it, and it was absolutely worth the visit! This is a lovely little museum which although it is packed full of interesting memories and memorabilia, it retains an intimate and local feel. The area about the 10th Mountain Division was particularly moving and well-described.

The member of staff on duty was friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome. Thank you for a interesting and enjoyable visit.

This is a great place to learn the history of skiing . Both kids and adults will like it. There are many old pictures and videos as well as equipment there.
