“Terrific experience”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

We've now enjoyed Atwater twice in as many years, and both times were overwhelmed with the quality of the food and the care invested in our experience. The staff was very knowledgeable about the sources of, and ingredients in, our dishes; the staff of other restaurants are likely to give you that deer-in-the-headlights look if you ask any questions about the food or spirits, so we were impressed. Everything was perfectly cooked, artfully presented, and the ultimate compliment: We still talk about some of the things we ate there, wishing we lived closer so we could go back. The restaurant's recent focus on craft beers is a real treat for this beer-centric family. Hope to find our way back soon.

Dear Puglogic,

Thanks for the kind words. I am very pleased that you had a nice time. We consistently work to keep our service and food at very high standards. We have slipped a few times in the past week and are very aware of the issues. It looks like we are back on track ! Please say hello the next time you are in Vail. By the way, It has been snowing ALOT.. If you ski, now's the time to make that impulse trip !

“My favorite place to eat in Vail”
Reviewed February 27, 2013

I am surprised that the reviews of the Atwater aren't higher across the board. I've eaten here three times and have had nothing but great experiences. The food is great, the service is better than one should expect in a ski town, and the atmosphere is relaxing and pleasant. Good value.

“Not what we expected”
Reviewed February 19, 2013 via mobile

Chose this restaurant based on it's ranking and previous guest comments. Upon arrival it was clear that the staff appeared overwhelmed. It was Presidents' Day and the hostess explained that the kitchen was serving not just the restaurant but also the bar area and room service orders. Our server was very good and the menu has interesting choices. The server highly recommended the pork shank dinner but it was tough and dry. My husband ordered the braised short rib grilled cheese and felt that the flavor was off - sort of sour. Giving it a second chance, we ordered lunch and had it delivered to the spa today. The apple pie was great but we were still disappointed by our dinner visit.

“Food was wonderful, service was very very poor”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

Food was very good, service was very, very poor. I was very surprised, for such a highly rated restaurant in Vail, to be seated and wait 15 minutes (no exaggeration) for our waiter. I was told they were understaffed that evening, and our waiter (who usually served water, but was "promoted" for the evening) gets an A for effort. However, we had to ask for bread plates, my martini was sent back because it was not made correctly (they added more liquore as requested, but did not remix it so it was room temperature). We asked for vanilla ice cream with the apple pie, were told that would be accommodated, but received the sour cream ice cream instead. When we left, my husband went into the valet parking booth and got his own key and we walked to the car. The cost of the food (our meals ranged from $22 for pizza for the teenagers to $40 for other entrees ordered) was not worth the very poor service. They were kind enough to give us our dinner rolls (which were excellent) and 1 dessert for free. Maybe we just hit a bad night for them, but I would never, ever return.

“Yet another amazing evening”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

Such a treat! We went back to Atwater and found our favorite Manager, Meagan, had returned from maternity leave. She guided us through a newly designed menu; accurately and enticingly made some recommendations. They had a raw bar which was stunning. The fish was so fresh and chilled and yummy. The Tuna Poke was superb, as usual! Main courses of Tuna and Short Rib were absolutely out of this world. Even though we were stuffed, Meagan encouraged us to treat ourselves to a lovely dessert which, of course, we did! Thank you, Atwater and Meagan for making our Valentines Day wonderful, warm, and tasty - you all provide a consistent, pleasant, delicious adventure each time we visit you!
