“Where's the spa?”
Reviewed March 7, 2014 via mobile

I don't know the origin of the name for this facility: Vail Spa---- but I must report there is no spa. Unless of course you consider the presence of a hot tub, pool, steam room (that's never operating), and sauna a "spa." I don't. They will call in a massage therapist if you wish but if you are looking for a spa experience then I suggest going elsewhere. I think it's ok that there isn't a "real spa" here but I do wish they would not use it as a part of their name because some may find it misleading.

The unit we stayed in was relatively clean and we had daily mail service. Some condos do not offer this. The maintenance staff was very prompt and helpful with a few problems we had in our unit. It seems these staff truly care. Again, sometimes condo places don't have housekeeping and maintenance staffs like this.

The location is quite convenient. Easy walk to the chair lift. If a person cannot make it that far then maybe they should consider a different sport with golf carts.

The unit itself that we stayed in was "tired" in terms of decorating and had adequate space and amenities. The comforter on the beds are in need of cleaning, as are carpets. The draperies were not properly hung and thus didn't look good. One could attribute this to housekeeping and maintenance. But management needs to set the tone or standards and ultimately be accountable.

They offered our group a wine and cheese party as a welcome. Our group was about 25 and the wine and cheese included 12 strawberries, a child size handful of grapes etc.---- completely inadequate. Again, it seems to indicate they wish to say they offer amenities but it is really just appearance and not quality.

Then there was the response by management in regards to some serious noise complaints occurring in the complex. Yes, the noise was so loud and persistent that it disturbed the entire complex. We know this because we were a group staying in units on various floors and locations. All of us were disturbed and complained. On site management handled this poorly. They told us they give some extra grace in terms of noise compliance to "owners" and the offenders were owners apparently. Possibly the owners would like to offer paying guests ear plugs, noise suppression ear phones or Ambien as additional amenities.

We complained to the corporate owners of this facility and were promised a speedy response via a phone call by a certain time. No call received here and we made sure we were here to receive the call.

For some, this place might be the best place they've stayed. But as a ski club, we've stayed at a number of different resorts through out Colorado and Vail Spa doesn't measure up in many respects.

There is huge potential for this place, but I don't feel I should pay for potential. It is a competitive marketplace, and I would choose differently in the future.

Dear Kim,

Thank you for your comments. We very much appreciate guest feedback. As you pointed out in your review, our staff truly does care about your experience at our property.

You are not the first to notice that our name is a bit unusual for a condo hotel property. 30 years ago, when the Vail Spa was created, it was felt that having luxurious amenities such as indoor and outdoor pools and hot tubs, steam rooms, sauna, private massage rooms and a fitness facility provided a serene and spa-like setting for a Vail vacation. We still think it does! However, we understand that many travelers are looking for a full service spa experience. That is not something that we can offer, and would absolutely tell you that in advance of your trip if given the opportunity. One final point... an on-site massage is available to our guests and the therapists are wonderful, so next time you visit us at Vail Spa, I would encourage you to enjoy this offering. In fact, if you choose to return to Vail Spa, we will provide a complimentary 50 minute massage just for you.

Please allow me to respond to your comments regarding noise complaints. First and foremost, we recognize that there was a problem; a very loud and disruptive gathering in another condo on two nights during your stay. Please know that our staff (on property 24 hours a day) followed protocol put in place to handle issues like this. Our overnight agent called and visited the condo multiple times to ask the guests to quiet down. When he was unable to control the problem himself, he involved the authorities. The police were called to the property on two occasions and did issue violations in the end.

This is an unusual occurrence at Vail Spa, and we are sorry that your evening(s) were disturbed. I would disagree, however, with your statement that the entire complex was disturbed; we proactively called to check in with several condos that we feared might have been affected by the noise, but did not receive complaints from any other guests. Once again, we recognize and are sorry that due to the location of your condo, you were so greatly affected.

Please also know that immediate action was taken by the management team by reaching out to members of your group, as well as the guests in the offending condo the very next morning. We have continued to check in and follow up with your group leaders and have made our very best effort to ensure that everyone leaves feeling that their concerns have been fully addressed.

We have received so many nice compliments from members of your group, and it sounds like overall everyone enjoyed their stay very much. We enjoyed having you, too. Once again, thank you for your time and your feedback.

Sincerely,
Jessica Davis

Our family(5 adults, 2 children) celebrated a reunion in Vail. Our stay at the Vail Spa in Unit 501(penthouse) was superb. The condo was fully updated with new bathrooms, tons of electronics, and a roomy layout. We used the fully stocked kitchen(pantry even had staples like spices/sugar, etc) daily and relaxed by the fireplace every night. The Vail Spa accommodations and staff were excellent. The indoor/outdoor pools and hot tubs were a daily hit with the kids, and our aching bodies after skiing. Our son shoveled off the main balcony so we could sit in the warm afternoon sun, and use the grill in the evening. The owners responded to all our pre visit questions and called us twice to insure everything met our expectations. We loved the privacy and views from the penthouse. Now we are back to reality in Minnesota and the "polar vortex".

Room Tip: Suggest talking directly with the Vail Spa staff about your individual needs and expectations before...

Great location for accommodation at the Vail Spa, at Lionshead; and, proximity to skiing lifts, equipment rental, stores, restaurants and the small village ambiance, are absolutely great!
Try spending a little time in the summer at The Vail Spa............. With it's proximity to the mountain, and all the facilities around it, you will find it a great getaway, and a truly beautiful experience.

Room Tip: Make accommodation reservations, well in advance

My family and I stayed at the Vail spa for 2 weeks during X-mas and new year. We have only good things to say about this condo. Very well located, excellent service, and the condo was like new !!. The people in the front desk are very attentive and helpful as well as all the other staff. The pool and the hot tub are very clean and we always got fresh towels. The cleaning lady was always looking after my children and left chocolates in our pillows every night. My only regret is that we can not spend more time in Vail.

We were absolutely sold a bill of goods with this property. Upon arrival at 5:30 pm our condo was filthy, and we had to have cleaning staff there for an hour while we tried to get organized. We had doors that did not open, and a leaking master bath faucet. The building elevators were often nonfunctional and we had to go up and down three flights of stairs with ski boots on. It was a very long walk to the lifts, especially with skis and poles. Nothing was offered to us, despite our insistence, to make up for all these issues. For the price we paid, these accomodations were totally unacceptable. DO NOT STAY HERE!!

Dear Sara,
Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your experience. First and foremost, we apologize for any frustration or disappointment you may have experienced. We strive to exceed the expectations of each of our valued guests, and take your comments to heart. We will make our entire staff aware of your experience so that we may improve our service for future stays.

We are sorry that the condo was not yet ready for your arrival. A guest had departed a bit later than expected that day, and it takes several hours for our housekeeping staff to fully prepare a 3 bedroom residence for arrival. For this delay, we offered you a free night at Vail Spa Condominiums.

I understand that you reserved your stay through a third party wholesaler. I cannot speak to the property information provided by their agents, but if our distance to the slopes was misrepresented I can understand your frustration. We are not ski in/ski out, and are sure to tell our guests that we are a 5 minute walk to the gondola. We can arrange for ski valet service, which allows you to store your skis and boots near the gondola so that you do not have to carry equipment back and forth each day.

Additionally, each of our Vail Spa residences is individually owned, and all are unique in terms of bedding, décor, view and quality of the finishes and furnishings. If you decide to return to Vail Spa, and I hope that you will, I encourage you to call us directly to reserve your stay. We can always offer the best available rate, provide the most accurate information and find the perfect fit residence for your needs and requests.

I only wish I had been made aware of your dissatisfaction during your stay, so that I might have been able to take action in the moment and turn your stay around. Again, I hope that you will use your free night and let us show you why guests return to Vail Spa year after year.

Sincerely,
Jessica Davis, Assistant General Manager

Our ski club spent 4 nights at Vail Spa and loved it. The staff was always very friendly and helpful. The condos are within walking distance of Vail, so it was very convenient for skiers. The town buses stop right outside, so you can get a free ride anywhere around town. The hot tubs were awesome after a long day skiing. They have indoor and outdoor heated pools and hot tubs. The condos were very spacious and have everything you need. The view from the condos was fabulous since the mountain was right out the window. We can't wait to return to Vail and Vail Spa Condos!

We stayed in unit 109 for the Lionshead Oktoberfest celebrations and everyone had a great time. The unit was spacious and clean and within walking distance of all the events. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this to anyone headed to Vail!
