“Everything we needed for our ski trip”
Reviewed March 30, 2012

We stayed at the Vail Spa condos the first week of March and the property exceeded my expectations. My first concern was the size of the unit but there was plenty of room for the four of us. The second was the location because by the map it seemed kind of far away from the gondola, and walking in ski boots is not my idea of a fun vacation. However, we stored our skis at our rental spot and had an easy walk each morning to hit the slopes. Plus, the Vail bus picked up right across the street by the Marriott. Housekeeping was great and even did the dishes! Can't think of any negatives. We would definitely choose the Vail Spa Condos again.
A word about getting to and from the airport-- check the valley bus schedule and if you see a route with just a few stops that fits your timetable, take it! When arriving we took a taxi for $140 for four of us. Our flights timed with the public bus well and we were able to take the bus on departure day to Eagle-- 4 bucks each! It only took about 15 minutes longer than it would have for a private taxi. Felt a little wierd riding with our luggage but we didn't displace any riders.

When we arrived, we were extremely disappointed by our unit (on the 5th floor) because of the terrible non-stop road noise (even with windows closed). And the unit was very poorly decorated.
We managed to change to another unit (on ground floor) that was really better, but still you can hear a road noise in the background (I can't imagine during summer time when you want to open the windows...) - but only in the living and dining rooms. The bedrooms were mountain facing and quiet.
The unit was confortable, even if the decoration is quite old-fashioned and eclectic for the price you pay.
The kitchen was perfect and in very good condition though.
The bedrooms are of a good size but the mattresses really need to be changed (very soft) and the bed linen were of a poor quality...
We received great service from the people there and can only say that they did their best to please us. The unit was also daily cleaned and that was greatly done.
Overall, the main issues are 1. the road noise and 2. it would need some refurbishments.

Room Tip: bedrooms should be mountain facing in order to avoid the Interstate noise !

Our group stayed at The Vail Spa condominiums at Lionshead twice, the first time in February 2010 and most recently in February 2012. The location is excellent despite loud road noise from I-70. I brought earplugs with me on the recent trip to allow for a restful sleep.
In 2010 we were assigned unit 308, a very nice 3 bedroom, 3 bath unit. The kitchen was updated (except appliances). The unit had flat screen TV's and was well kept.

Now to February 2012 and unit 201. The owner of this unit has chosen to forego much needed paint on the threshold at the French doors leading to the patio/balcony. This very inexpensive maintenance issue is the first of many. The stovetop and oven look to be over 20 years old and do not provide adequate heat for meal preparation. There are very limited utensils for cooking purposes. The utensil drawer is broken. Management was notified of these issues but could not effect repairs due to the owners apparent lack of financial support.

In essence it would be wise to avoid unit 201.

We stayed at the Vail Spa Condominiums in December as part of a ski group. The condo is a reasonable (150-200 yards) walk to the gondola, but is also served by the free local shuttle that runs about every 10-15 minutes. We stayed in room 309 which was clean and well maintained, but based on other units in our group was very sparse and low-end. A flat screen TV in the living room would have been nice. The staff were very friendly and accomodating and seemed genuinely appreciative of our business. The hot beverages (coffee, spiced cider and hot chocolate) in the lobby was a welcome treat after a day of skiing or coming back from the hot tub and the ski locker was very convenient. Speaking of the hot tub, there are two - one inside and the other outside. They were sufficiently hot and well maintained, but did not seem to be open until mid-afternoon. They had an inside pool and a heated one outside that looked inviting, but we didn't try them out. You may want to take advantage of the locker room next to the pool area for showereing after the hot tub and changing into regular clothes. It is clean and the shower area large.

As noted in other reviews, there was noise from the highway, but given that it was winter with the windows closed, it was fairly minimal. Since the entire Vail Village is located right next to I-70, it may be next to impossible to avoid.

We chose vail spa condo's after much debate on whether we should stay in Breckenridge or Vail. We chose vail in the end - and chose vail spa as our place to stay. We stayed in unit 526 which is a 2 floor, 3 bedroom condo. We are a family of 5 (kids 5, 8, 10) and the layout was perfect. The decor was excellent - and nicely updated and appointed throughout.

The staff were kind and friendly. The wireless didn't work well at all. I ended up buying the local access and the staff credited me that cost.

A warning - the place got HOT. Yes we were having hotter days - but the sun runs into the room all day (a good thing!!!!!) just make sure there are some box fans there.

Another warning - there is a LOT of road noise. This place of most gets the road noise all day and night. Oddly enough, the fans on all night blocked out the road noise.

I used the fitness center - and it was GREAT. There is an indoor and outdoor pool. Good for those times where there is a threat of lightning or rain.

We used the gondola quite a bit - and My 10 year old and I rented mountain bikes and came down the mountain several times.
