“Terrible! Stay elsewhere.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2007

Reasons not to stay at the Vail Cascade:

1. There is no air conditioning, which is required. When it is 80 degrees in Vail Valley your room will heat up to 100 degrees.
2. No free parking. $20 for valet parking, $15 for self-parking.
3. Where are the valets? The hotel is not properly staffed to provide 4-star service. Check-in also took too long.
4. They mow the lawn at 9:30am, so don't expect to enjoy a relaxing breakfast on the terrace.

This "resort" is rated at 4 stars, but one can get better service and value at 2 star options nearby.

We returned to The Cascades resort again this ski season only because Vail seriously lacks great quality hotels in the price range where discerning skiiers want a great hotel with value for money and are prepared to pay for it if value is perceived..

The ski lift at the door of the Cascades resort being the ,main attraction for what otherwise is a nice resort with average rooms and service and Motel 6 style bathrooms. King beds I say are also very comfortable and linen of high quality.

This visit however we were informed at check in the Cascades lift was not operating anymore -Tough Luck?!! We were given a room next to the lifts and quite frankly my mouth was vibrating after a few hours in this room. It was either check out or change rooms. After numerous requests for a room change our request was finally possible after it was revealed we review hotels for a prestigious credit card company and were about to check out if nothing else was available. Young staff seemed unable to make decisions that affect the satisfaction of the guests.

The other major problem we identify is that The Cascades Resort is a Nickle and Dime resort. You pay a huge Resort fee on top of your hotel cost. This covers nothing any other hotel at this price range does not provide for free. ie shuttle service tio town, usage of gym and ski lift. You also pay extra for internet usage. It can be noted that if the ski lift is not operating or you do not use the gym. The fee is still charged.. How can they still do this?? One has to seriously ask how they get away with this. Not good at all.!! ??

Good points are a great hot tub and location . If Cascades chair is working and an OK room is provided , This is an hotel in an area where choice in this category is sadly limited and expensive in ski season. Overall we would say Cascades is a lodge style resort with typical hotel rooms, basic bathrooms and TVs away from it all but next to Cascades ski lift and shuttle service to town.

Would we recommend it? "No" But unfortunately given the other choices and value for money we said that last year we would not return but at the time we booked it seemed unfortunately to be the best choice thus we came back and given the limited range in this category for Vail may well do so again if we had to book last minute!!...

Note -Last year we spent 14 days over Xmas and New Year here. Do not stay here if you want a great Xmas facility.. The restaurant did not do sanything special for Xmas and so we had lunch at Two Elks instead! The bar did provide Xmas music but limited cf other resorts we have stayed in over this time.

  • Liked — Location to Ski Lift
  • Disliked — Charge Extra for Everything, Huge Resort Fee on top of Hotel Fee.
