“Perfect room....perfect location....parking a pain but otherwise great!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 17, 2007

We can be particular but...would have a hard time finding any fault with this place. We only wish they would validate the parking; we have no other complaints. The Haus is smack in the middle of it all in Vail; The room, 337, was nicely appointed and we could set our watch by the daily room service.

The staff always smiled and was polite...hey....if you work at a resort and are reading this.....that goes such a long way! Really!

We enjoyed the hidden hot tub on the B floor....it's clean...one inside one out. People have written there is no view....but really it's priviate and intimate...and...kept nice, clean and HOT.

As for skiing or boarding in Vail....vast.....uncrowded.....jaw dropping beautiful. For those of us from east coast skiing....simply....amazing. We were so busy on the "Front Side" that it was day 4 when we discoverd "China Bowl and Blue Sky"
What can you say? Wow.

Look forward to coming back to Vail late Jan or early Feb!!!

  • Liked — Well appointed room, fireplace....kitchen with every utinsel....as we cooked a good bit.
  • Disliked — Parking is $20.00 a day. Leave and come back and leave again...try $40.00 a day.....May not rent car next time...we felt it would give us optins...but really wasn't needed.

We stayed at the Mountain Haus for the first time for a late August vacation. We have been to Vail many times in the summer, usually staying at the Sonnenalp (which we love), But this time found the Sonnenalp sold out, so we decided to stay somewhere else in town and decided to try the Mountain Haus. We expected it would not be as luxurious as the Sonnenalp (it wasn't), but we loved the location, were pleasantly surprised by the facilities and greatly pleased by the price (about 1/3 of what a similarly sized room would cost down the street at the Sonnenalp or Austria Haus - check the site "vailonsale" for cheap booking).

Reasons to book at the Mountain Haus:

1. Location. Located at the very center of town at the Covered Bridge on Gore Creek. Rooms on the Mountain Side have views over the stream and up to the ski hill. The Valley side, however, is much less attractive as it faces the parking structure and, at higer floors, looks over interstate 70. We stayed Mountain side and think it was worth the cost, at least in the summer when you tend to use the deck.

2. Cost/Value. You can get a great space for far less than most nearby properties if you browse around a bit with your computer. Prices (at least in summer) include daily housekeeping and a free continental breakfast.

3. Facilities. You have what you need here -- an outdoor pool (small, but adequate), outdoor hot tub (good sized), indoor hottub (nice) and seperate steam and sauna for men/women. Plenty of free fluffy pool towels available, too. The pool is located at the bottom of a wallled-in depression (kind of like swimming at the bottom of a shallow well, where the only thing to see is the sky directly above and some surrounding pines). The pool and hottub get almost no direct sunlight as a result of being sub-ground level, but are kept clean and are perfectly adequate. Just no beautiful river or mountain views like you have at some other pools in Vail (like the Sonnenalp).

Reasons not to stay at Mountain Haus:

1. You expect 5 star luxury. This is a midrange condo that has done a good job of upgrading some facilities (the lobby and the spa and pool) and some units (ours was very nice, with new baths and new kitchen), but other parts of the hotel are old/dated tired (the breakfast is offered in a charmless, windowless beaten-up conference room; the halls are 1980s yuck, etc).

2. You want to be in the outdoors. You are on the river, but that gives you about 15 feet of nature on one side of the hotel. The other side of the hotel is the buslane and parking garage.

3. You want ski-in/ski-out. It isn't. It is close to the lifts, but a walk (or a short shuttle ride on the free in town bus).

  • Liked — Location
  • Disliked — Pool in perpertual shade, some tired/dated public spaces

Stayed here last ski season - and found the position excellent. Easy walk to shops, ski hire places and lifts. With four teenagers - location meant they could go off on their own and safely browse the shops after skiing. The rooms at the front are a bit noisy with buses - but that would not stop us rebooking in the future. Out of season prices are Ok - but high season is very expensive. We had a two room condo - which was well presented and had all we needed. Very spacious and clean. The boys also enjoyed the pool and spa - which is small but adequate.Staff were helpful and lobby had nice cookies for free in the afternoons. Breakfast was pretty standard, but since I did not have to shop for it or cook it, it was fine!

Stayed for four nights and loved the convenience of the location. The spa pool is nice too. Got a hot water flask and some snacks on arrival. Security is good at the hotel too with card access at most important doorways.

Great location, BUT the noise from the bus stop right outside the front door from 1-2am was unbareable. The bars let out and all the drunks go to the bus stop. If you stay here make sure you are on the creek side. We complained about the noise to the front desk and were basically told to upgrade. $300.00 a night for a noisy room with that kind of service is unacceptable. We will go back to Vail but would never stay there. Why they do not imporve the windows I do not know.

Stayed there a couple of weeks ago, and loved the location at the Covered Bridge. The hot tubs and spa facilities were nice(I think recently redone), and the morning Continental breakfast was more than adequate(not 5 star, but filling). My biggest issue was our room(3 bedroom). I know that the units are individually owned, and the one I stayed in was a negelctful owner. The kitchen was nice, but the rest of the place was really sub-par. A serious makeover was in order. Supposedl some of the other untis are better, and I will request to stay in another one the next time around! Overall I give it an average review due to my unit.

We just returned from a 4-night stay at the Mountain Haus--it is by far the best location in Vail. Each unit can be different - we stayed in 446, which had 2 master bedrooms, granite countertops in the kitchen, and great views of the mountain. Vail is expensive, but this is the best value for the money. Free cont breakfast, a place to do laundry, and very accomodating staff. There's even a casual bar/restaurant (George) on the bottom floor with good pub food. Starbucks across the street. Even though there's a free easy shuttle service around town, we walked everywhere. For Dinner, we highly recommend La Bottega (Italian) and Sweet Basil's (Continental). Also, use Aalta for ski rentals - they have free storage and you never have to carry your skis/boots because they hold them for you there - amazing!! Use Vail Valley Taxi - they're cheaper than the others, and we had great time with the educated drivers (Lloyd had great recommendations). p.s. If you are planning on going to Vail, definitely stay in Vail Village. Do NOT stay in Lionhead until 2007 - there's a ton of construction going on there, but when it's done it will be beautiful. There's also a new Four Seasons resort coming soon. However, Mountain Haus was awesome!
