Watch out for those 1 lane sections. There is a reason that vehicles longer than 35 feet aren't allowed on this pass. If you missed the sign while pulling your travel trailer, make sure you turn around. Those breathtaking vistas are not worth dying for!!

It is what it is, a peak. As you are passing, take 5 mins to walk to up the path and take in the view.

During our stay at Mt. Elbert Lodge, we drove the dozen miles further west on CO82. Beautiful drive through heavy woods, then up a great incline above a nice watered meadow :). At the top, there is a big parking lot with plenty of restrooms. Take the walk to a view to the southeast. More mountains loom to the west so there's no view of Aspen :(.

Plan a stop at the top. Nice parking area with restrooms. Walk out to the observation area. The views are awesome!!! You will be above the tree-line. Stay on the path as the tundra is fragile.
There were actually bicycle riders up there that rode their bikes up. Amazing. Highway 82 is a real thrill - with views around every bend in the road and a few place that will give you passengers some white-knuckles.
We loved it, would go again and stop at the top. I love this country!!!!
