Despite the fact that this hotel is very old, but they have kept it up and it's a wonderful place to stay. The best part of the place is the service. From the phone call to book, through check-out, the staff was helpful and friendly. You can tell by the architecture that it is an old holiday in, but the facility is well-maintained and clean. The carpet is clean and soft. There is an initial old building smell to the room, but once the air is on it is not noticeable. There were reviews of rooms smelling smoky...ours did not. The pool was nice...quite big for a hotel pool. There were a bunch of kids and our kids are still asking when we can go back and stay there. The pool is in the large open space of the lobby, so the water can be kept warm enough to be just comfortable refreshing, but the air is not heavy and full of chlorine. The layout is perfect for being able to have a pet and have easy access to an outside door to be able to go walk. I would highly recommend this for a stayover if you are driving through Colorado.

Room Tip: There are some rooms around the pool that I wouldn't choose, just because of noise...although th...

We had a fun stay here for one night. This must be an older hotel that has been completely redone.

Rooms - clean and modern. GREAT deal for the price. Ask for a room facing the back with amazing views of the mountains and it should be quiet as well. We would most definitely stay here when we pass through again. We usually stay in Raton when driving up to Colorado from Ft. Worth, but it was certainly worth driving the extra little distance to stay here.

Some rooms are directly beside the indoor pool in the open atrium area. If you don't want the noise, be sure and ask for a room that is NOT near the pool.

Pool - large indoor pool with large hot tub in a huge atrium enclosure that includes the front desk area and is two stories high. So many indoor pools in hotels are in small rooms with low ceilings and become unbearably noisy when children play in the pool, but this is in such a large area that it was SO much better. And the pool was relatively warm, which we don't find often in hotel pools. Hot tubs usually don't seem hot enough to me, but this hot tub was very hot, so take care not to stay in it too long.

Breakfast - was served in what used to be a restaurant inside the hotel, so it was pleasant and could easily hold the many people there to enjoy breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the back with beautiful views of the mountains. If you don't want a l...

This Choice Hotels property is quite an old property which has been renovated, although you can still tell it is old. The view to the back of the hotel, out of a large window, is quite beautiful with the mountains. There is also a deck across the back which is great for viewing the evening sunset. It is ok for a one night stay while passing through the area, but I wouldn't want to stay here for an extended length of time. The lobby is quite spacious and includes an indoor pool and a bar that stays open late. The room included a refrigerator and microwave which is always nice. The breakfast room is located in what used to be a restaurant so there is a spacious seating area and the breakfast is adequate, including hot dishes as well as the usual fare.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side are away from the street.

We stayed here 7-18-13. They take pets which is awesome, however, they charge a $200 fee if your pet pees or does something to the room. This is pretty standard but when we got to the room there were already stains on the floor so I took pictures and told the clerk about it before bringing my pet in. The room was fairly clean other than that. The bathroom door stuck on the poorly laid tile, the shower was too slippery with no mat to place inside, the wallpaper was peeling, but the air conditioner worked amazingly. The pool area was nice but closed at 10 so travelers didn't have much time after a long day. The breakfast was standard. Then at 9:30 a.m. we got a call asking if anyone was still in the room. Checkout is at 12:00 p.m. according to paperwork and door. Then at 10:00 a.m. as we finished packing the car and were doing a last minute check, there was a knock on the door asking if we were checking out yet. We will not stay here again!

Stayed at this Quality Inn on July 10th. The front desk was very helpful and nice. It was a clean, easy to find location. I was traveling with a pet and there were ample areas to walk the dog..I also am a smoker and they had smoking rooms here. The rooms were very clean which I am a stickler about....definately would stay here again!!

We booked this hotel last minute after getting rained out camping up near Monument Lake. It was fine. We asked for a pet room (a $10 extra charge), and they have you sign this paper saying if you smoke in the room it's a $200 charge. It definitely was a smoking room at one time. The free "breakfast" was the usual junk you get at most hotels these days. Their saving grace was the mountain view and deck with picnic table at the end of the lobby. They also had a bar and indoor SALT WATER pool and hot tub...

It was clean, easy to get to, plenty of parking and normal full breakfast. The pool is only 3 ft deep the whole length. Only real complaint was that there is nothing to hold on to in order to get in and out of hot tub. With bad knees it made it pretty difficult.
