Enjoyed watching people fishing on the Lake but very limited leisure options and rangers not too knowledgeable

Beautiful views from Trinidad Lake State park. Plenty of fun hiking trails and lake access. It's great hiking all year long.

We actually took a wrong turn leaving our motel. Since we weren't in any hurry, we just went with it! Just across the dam we pulled down into the boat dock area. We photographed an adult and a juvenile Bald Eagle, They were soaring on the 40 mile an hour winds! We visited the Corps of Engineers office (They operate the dam( and talked to the friendly staff there. We then proceeded to the State Park Ranger Station. The Ranger was knowledgeable and friendly. After a short ride through the campsites (a very nice park) we drove further south. On the South end of the Lake we took a dirt road and found a COUGAR! He crossed the road about 80 yards in front of our car and my wife got nineteen photographs. Beautiful animal. It was serendipity. This is the way we like to travel.

We love to camp here when we’re in Trinidad. We like site number three. It’s easy to get into and it’s just across the road from the ranger station. Even though it’s small, the ranger station has some terrific exhibits. We learn something every time we go there. And the rangers are nice and quite knowledgeable. There are hiking trails and you can ride your bike all around. We like the wildlife. A flock of 11 wild turkeys were walking down the road right by our campsite. The park is close enough to town to eat or see the sights, yet in the park you have the peace and quite of the country.
