It was an incredible experience to be able to be outside on a beautiful setting with snowing mountains and feeling warm. The crepes were excellent they were made right in front of us, foie gras, wild mushroom soup, lamb stew, croque monsieur, a perfect french bistrot in the middle of the most beautiful mountains in colorado!

This is an on-mountain restaurant at the top of the Polar Queen Express lift. It is outside seating only under a large canopy, which is closed on sunny days. There are many area heaters spaced around the circular enclosure, which generally helped make the temperature acceptable.

We stopped here because it was the only place convenient. We wanted to keep skiing in this area and didn't want to go all the way down the mountain or cut over to other sections and lifts to eat.

Although the prices are high, our meals measured up. We both had the quiche Lorraine, which came with a very small side salad and piece of French bread for $15. But I swear this food tasted like it had been cooked by a French chef. The quiche was some of the creamiest, most delicious I have ever had and the salad of mixed greens had the most delightful light dressing. We had the large bottle of San Pellegrino water for $10. Almost everyone else was in a group of 4 or more and sharing a bottle of wine. Another tempting entree we saw was the wild mushroom soup served en croute (topped by a pie-type crust). The bowl was steaming under the crust and it looked delicious. The servers bring the food from a nearby building and it is covered to keep it warm. Our quiches were the perfect temperature.

They also serve dessert crepes for about $11 each. I thought we might come back another day to try one, but it didn't work out.

The only item I did not enjoy was the French press coffee (for two). I was hoping for something that tasted bold and European, but it was nothing special and had the muddy look produced by this type of brewing. They do a nice job of keeping it hot, though, and warm up the mugs with boiling water to hold the heat when it is served.

Service was pleasant and prompt.

I think this would be a fabulous spot for a lunch with skiing friends over a bottle of wine on a brilliant, sunny, not-too-cold day.
