I read the reviews before going to DTR. I agree with all of them. The place has wonderful wood beams, decorated in a western theme, I had the BEST massage ever from Mary, Nikki really knows her stuff when it came to leading our 2 1/2 hour ride and the grounds were fantastic!

I gave 4 stars because like another review said, the service was slow and the food was good but not great. Prices were $$-$$$. Staff was very pleasant. The s'mores by the fire were good but the marshmallows could have been fresher. While the pebble tile surround was a nice addition to our shower, the shower head was quite a disappointment. No water came from the center and was not up to the room standards.

We chose this time of the year because the rooms were at their cheapest, $188. for a king size bed, fireplace, 2 comfy leather chairs, Ipod docking station and 1 of only two enclosed porch areas. This room usually sells for $250-350 during high season.

There's a fun game room downstairs with bowling (skee-ball type balls), shuffle board etc. Also a nice little movie theater with different movies shown at 6 & 8p.

I will definitely return for another horse ride and massage!

Room Tip: Rooms on main level have outdoor areas.

I have stayed at this property twice; the second time they had made some nice additions. On my second visit, I stayed at the Ouray Cabin. Very nice cabin. We spent two days swimming in the fabulous fresh-water pool, horseback riding on their beautiful property, and kayaking at nearby Grand Lake. We had dinner in the restaurant, which was delicious, and had the added entertainment of spotting a rather large black bear lumbering around not far from the restaurant's window. A wonderful escape from the day-to-day of everyday life. Highly recommend!

Devil's Thumb Ranch is one of my most favorite places. I make the trip up from Denver just to hit their amazing spa and restaurants. It's only 1.5 hours away and well worth the trip. I feel like I'm a world away in the most relaxing and beautiful places. The staff at the spa is wonderful, the treatments are amazing and one of my most favorite aspects of a spa trip is hanging out in the fireplace room (when it's cold), or the hot tub deck in the summer, with a bottle of wine and the cheese plate with great friends!

Room Tip: Love the porches on the ground floor rooms facing the back of the resort.

We stayed for 2 nights in one of the 2 bedroom cabins. We were a party of 2 adults, a 4 yr old & an 85 yr old Grandparent. We arrived & quickly got the fire going & before long the radiant heat floors, heating & fire had warmed up the cabin. The cabin was wonderfully rustic but still very comfortable. The Ranch House Restaurant was closed the 2 nights we were there & so we ate at Heck's & this turned out to be excellent. We had unintentionally stayed during "off season" & so we had the game room, swimming pool & movie theatre to ourselves the whole stay. We took a 45 min ride, had a massage at the spa & also rented x-country skis during our stay. For the most part the staff everywhere were nothing short of outstanding - providing excellent service in a courteous manner 100% of the time. As always, there were a couple of exceptions but to stay on the positive side let me just say the stables staff, housekeeping & Heck's staff were "top notch" & they made our stay special. Thank-you to them. We will most certainly return - most likely during the "off season" as I don't think we would like to have to share the amenities with anyone! By the way, we made the butternut squash bisque yesterday & it turned out to be excellent - thanks for sharing the recipe with us.

Room Tip: I would always go with a cabin,. Quiet & out of the way.

Family of 4 (girls aged 12 and 8) stayed here for 4 days in mid-October.

DTR is an amazing place to relax and to have an adventure at the same time.

We did horse riding from the stables (3 x 2.5 hours rides over 3 days). Led us to 3 different areas of this amazing ranch. Horses were great and all different and suitable for each of us who were inexperienced riders.
The wranglers who took us out (Tiffany & Josiah) were very friendly and knowledgeable in the ranch, the surrounding areas and the flora and fauna. Saw a pair of coyotes, some dear and about 200 elk.

Dinner was good at Heck’s and fantastic at the Ranch House Restaurant. We saved the Ranch House for a "last night treat" but we should have eaten there every night. The service was always good.

Cafe was also really good (Toby was really friendly)

Fishing was fun and the guides (Mike and Joel) were good

The games room and cinema completed the experience for the kids.

Overall, not a cheap place to stay, but it was great and I would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: I would recommend a cabin - they are warm and cosy and are in the trees across the valley and away f...

This place is unreal. It's hardly an hour and a half from Denver but you feel worlds away. We stayed in the lodge in a room that managed to achieve decadent luxury while appearing and feeling rustic and authentic. The rooms are luxe -- comfortable beds, fluffy comforters, heated bathroom floors. The grounds are amazing -- you can horseback ride, swim, hike, and get a massage all within feet of the front door. Our group saw black bears and elk, making the experience even more "real". At the end of the day, the food is fantastic -- both Heck's Tavern and the Ranch House Restaurant serve up yummy meals and great drinks, with a seemingly endless wine list. If you're into wine, ask for a tour of the wine cellar -- it's pretty cool and you can have a private dinner in there! The hot tub is awesome but be aware that the pool isn't really all that warm -- it may be heated but it's not warm! We felt like our every need was anticipated and taken care of. We can't wait to return.

Room Tip: If you want to splurge, get one of the divide-view corner suites -- they are incredible! And first f...

The Devils Thumb Ranch had everything we needed! Fantastic terrain for hiking and biking, breath taking views of the continental divide, an incredible spa with a treatment for any ailment, food to die for, and service to please a king. We felt absolutely pampered on all levels. We hope to visit again very soon.
