If you are foreigner, want to see something in South Sulawesi, and like nature, don't go there, unless you want to pay 50.000IDR (foreigner's price) for average waterfall full of locals on tyres,, concrete benches, average cave and sad sight of dead butterflies for ole-ole. It's not worth the trip from Makassar.

Don't go to the "waterfall" or "butterfly-forest" Tanda Tembayaran near Makassar, because it's not worth while. Entrance-fee for tourists is 5 times higher than for local young folks, who, on weekends, crowd the place for water-fun and will take pictures of YOU.
So it's just a nerving jungle-walk along a small river, who falls down a little bit. Some butterflies. No monkeys. Located a long ride behind Makassar airport, driving is stress.
Taxi-drivers love to bring You there, one picked us up at the airport. We were disappointed.

My family and I spent a great day here, it was hot but there were plenty of trees to enjoy the shade. We went on the walk up to the caves, rented some torches and got a guide to show us through. It was really interesting hearing the story and seeing the stalactites and stalagmites. When we came out our guide showed us how blue the water was up there and then showed us where some butterflies were.
My brothers had their swimming gear on (it might be polite and respectful to wear a singlet over your bathers) and had fun hiring inner tubes and sliding down the smaller waterfalls below the big one.

This beautiful park with the waterfall is known because the famous biologist Edgar Wallace discovered some new butterfly species here.
But it was really sad to see locals even in the presence of parkrangers catched the rare huge butterlies, to sell them after preparing them to the few tourists who reached this place. You simply can buy them (do not do that please) at the park entrance.
Little children do some tubing with big tractor tubes.
The prehistoric Ulu Leang (could not find it on Tripadvisor) cave paintings and their surreal surroundings some 8 km from here are more interesting.
You can ask someone at the shops to bring you there (about one hour because of the bad roads).
We went even by very old minibus.
Very worth the trip!!
