“Wonderful Ski Trip!!!!!”
Reviewed February 9, 2010

The Village at Steamboat is a great resort when visiting Steamboat. We stayed in building 5 on the second floor. We arrived around 8pm and check in was fast and uneventful. There is a small indoor pool in the main building where you check in. Also a gym and business center. The room was a 3 bedroom and quite large. The living room had a gas fireplace controlled by a 60 min. timer on the wall. There was a king bed in the master and the second bedroom. The first bedroom had 2 twin beds. There was a pullout couch in the living room so plenty of room for all the guys on our trip. The unit was well insulated and hardly ever got cold inside. We even had to turn on the A/C and it was 20 degree's outside!!!!!! It does have a good heat and a/c unit and large 80 gallon water heater for long showers. There was a large heated spa outside our building that was open till 10pm and was great after a day of skiing. THE BEST THING WAS THE SHUTTLE SERVICE TO THE SLOPE'S!!!!!! The shuttle picks up in front of each building and takes you to the mountain free of charge all day. I never waited more than 10 min and that was a long wait for the shuttle. Its great not to have to drive a car to get to the slopes. Just put your ski boots and on the bus you go. This resort is not within walking distance to the slopes but you can walk across a small field maybe 300-400 feet and there is a strip center with a Sports Authority and movie theater and a few eateries. I would recommend having a car because down town Steamboat is not close maybe a mile away. Also a great rental place is Ski Haus in Steamboat. If you reserve your reservation for your ski rental online they give a discount. We did not find much to do in the evening since the town kind of shuts down early in the evening. For instants I was sick when I checked in and needed a walk in clinic. The front desk informed me that there is no 24hr clinic in town. Also just for info the Wal-Mart close's at 9pm.....LOL I was very happy with this resort and would say here again and again.

There are two properties that are part of 'Village at Steamboat'. The unit that I'm writing about is with the Wyndham Vacation Resorts and are part of several new buildings. The Village at Steamboat also has older buildings which have been painted to match the new property. We stayed in building 4 on the first floor. Everything in the unit was in excellent condition and has only been opened since December 2008. The kitchen is fully stocked with all items needed to cook (not the bare minimum that you find in some condos). Check-in was easy except for pressure to go to a timeshare presentation which we declined. The people at front desk were friendly and helpful. The unit has 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths with plenty of room and privacy for two couples or a family. The beds were the best we've found anywhere which was a wonderful surprise. There is a new large outdoor pool, hot tub and firepit located on the grounds with plenty of chairs. Nothing was ever crowded and everything was very clean. This was one of the best timeshares we've ever stayed in!

This is by far and away the best Wyndham (formerly Fairfield) resort my husband and I have stayed at in almost 8 years of ownership (and we use ALL our points every year).

Starting with the prompt checkin, the NO-HASSLE parking pass - we explained we could only get 4 nights at the resort and had no time for the usual meeting and were not bugged even once again about it! Entering the room (bldg 4), the room was the best we have ever encountered in Wyndham/Fairfield. Roomy, patio/deck outside the LR/BR, comfortable LR furniture and bed, flat screen TVs in LR/BR, great cable selection, working fireplace. I wish we had been able to stay a full week and used the gas grills outside the units.

Just a couple warnings for people - if you drive a large vehicle, the parking garage may not be your best bet. The garage doors are narrow (we had our GMC Sierra pickup) and had to fold in both mirrors to get in the door. And there is a height limit - so if your SUV has ski racks, or your truck rides high - best just to park outside! Also, the outside and indoor pools were too cold to use; the hot tubs were fine, with the one outside our building being quite large and roomy.

Wyndham should use this as the model for ALL their properties!

A friend and I stayed three nights at the Village at Steamboat in February and were quite pleased with it. We had booked a 2-bedroom unit because we originally had 3 people, but one couldn't make it, so we had PLENTY of room for the 2 of us. We had unit 2408 in Building 4, which has underground parking, an elevator, and (extra-cost) internet connectivity thru a Telkon (?) box in the unit.

The front-desk staff were very friendly and helpful -- though the concierge did neglect to mention the free lift ticket until we had already bought tickets.

The building appears to be pretty new, and it was in good condition. Some minor issues (broken strike plate on a door latch; broken lid on the coffeemaker carafe; chipped tumbler) were taken care of virtually instantly.

We used the free shuttle bus to the ski area, which worked out well. Both drivers were pleasant and polite; one of them, who is originally from Long Island, is a riot. We are both native New Yorkers, so we had fun with him. Unfortunately, I don't remember either driver's name.

There is a Safeway reasonably close by, and downtown Steamboat Springs is a 5-minute drive, but be aware that the roads can be extremely icy. We bought coffee and breakfast necessities at Safeway; for lunch we ate on the mountain (Ragnar's is a really good sit-down restaurant), and dinners were usually in town. Mazzola's is decent American-style Italian -- very crowded and they don't take reservations. For barbecue we went to the Double Z Bar, which doesn't have a lot of atmosphere but serves good barbecue. Check out the big dog that lives out back.

Returned from our stay at Village at Steamboat on Jan 10th. We were in Bldg 1, which is one of two older buildings in the development. We had a 2 BR, 2 bath unit on the 3rd floor. No elevators - had to climb 40 steps to the unit, which really wasn't a problem except when we were lugging suitcases moving in and out. There was an underground garage, which was GREAT since we had a ton of snow during our trip and never had to scrape windows.

They were short-staffed on their cleaning crew, so the unit was not ready when we wanted to check-in a bit earlier than the 4:00 posted check-in time, and still wasn't ready at 4:30 when we returned. We got into the unit around 5:00. Speaking of cleaning services, we were there as guests of timeshare owners through Vacation Internationale. No cleaning services unless your stay is 9 days or longer. They did respond to requests for whatever we needed (more dishwasher soap, extra pillows, etc.). There was a washer/dryer in the unit which was really convenient and allowed us to pack "light" (as if packing for a ski trip is ever "light"...)

We had a BEAUTIFUL view of the slopes from our living room and balcony. The unit itself was fine - first floor master, small but well-equipped kitchen, living room (with Murphy bed) and a nice fireplace. The 2nd bedroom and bath were atop a spiral staircase, lofted over the living room. No TV's in the bedrooms, just 1 in the living room. The only real negative was that the living room furniture (couch and chair) were REALLY uncomfortable - hard as a rock. Since I spent some time in the condo while my husband and sons were skiing, this was probably more of an issue for me than them. However, I'll take an uncomfortable couch with that view ANY time over a cozy couch without a view!

Shuttle service to the gondola area ran every 20 minutes or so from 8-4:30, with a break at lunch for the driver. Not 100% reliable when you needed it, but there is a free shuttle from the Meadows lot across the street - just a short walk and a good fall-back option. The clubhouse has been renovated. The fitness room has a couple of treadmills, ellipticals, bikes and a weight machine. They have hook-ups for TV's on the the wall but TV's had not been installed yet. We enjoyed playing pool in the game room (also have a foos-ball table and small arcade room). The "Business center" with one computer with internet access is the only way to get on-line. No wi-fi or internet in the units.

There is a small indoor pool adjacent to the lobby, as well as a steam room and sauna. We used the hot tub just behind the clubhouse most often, but there is another large hot tub (25 person capacity) a short walk away. We were always able to find space in the hot tub.

We used the concierge service quite often for recommendations on activities and restaurants. They were friendly and helpful, often pulling coupons out of their stash for us to use to get discounts.

Speaking of activities and restaurants: Highly recommend the 2 hour snowmobile tour with Steamboat Snowmobile Tours. Also, the hot stone massage at Bear River Spa (Amanda) was incredible! Great dinners delivered from Mazzola's and Soda Creek Pizza Co. (tip those delivery guys well who have to climb all those stairs to get your food to you!)

Overall this is a good choice - not fancy or luxurious (at least in the older buildings), but really quite nice with all the amenities we were looking for.

These are recently constructed units within the Village at Steamboat and are owned by Worldmark by Wyndham which is their timeshare division. My family of 8 stayed here the week of Christmas. We booked the timeshare through a vacation rental site and re-rented someone's timeshare. When we arrived we were told that the furnace in the unit went out (odd being that these units are only weeks old) so my in-laws were given a two bedroom and we were promised that they would move us to a three bedroom when the rest of the group arrived. Needless to say by day three my husband and I were in a one bedroom and the rest of the family was down the hall in a two bedroom because the repair still wasn't made (so much for being together on Christmas morning) so we stayed in these two units the entire time. It got worse when we came in Christmas night and realized that our refridgerator had gone out with several hundred dollars worth of food in it (yes this is supposedly a new fridge too). We were moving food down the hallway at 11 at night but were able to save most things. We finally received a new fridge late the next afternoon after several phone calls. It seems other patrons were having similar experiences - several people we spoke with were spilt up into multiple units due to the furnance issue. The guest in the penthouse told us they didn't have hot water for a day and a half (yes, in the penthouse suite).

These units are new and nicely furnished and the resort has nice facilities including a game room, several hot tubs, pools, sauna and steamroom but they have got some serious maintenance issues that they need to address. Service at the front desk was hit or miss from very helpful to flat out rude when we inquired about repairs.

Resort is located close to the mountain and centrally located near everything you might need.

Our room was so hot when we checked in @ 4PM, my wife immediately went to the temperature control on the wall and turned on----THE HEATER! Where's the air conditioner in this place? The outside temp was 90-95 in the day and 60 at night; which means we slept with doors and windows open all night to let in the cool air and closed up @ 8AM to keep the cool in. So much for security--it's a good thing that this was a friendly place, because there were no locked (or closed) doors at night. Also, there was no elevator, so we walked three flights of stairs to our room, but hey, we're athletic and our suitcases only weighed 50 pounds. This place will be great in the winter, but PLEASE buy some A-C for the summer months! The Sheraton's got it! Summer activities in Steamboat are great--hiking the mountain, river rafting, mineral springs--and the restaurants are the best. We also went to a concert at the Strings--really nice. The only place you don't want to be from 11AM to 6PM is in the HOT MOTEL ROOM.
