“Quirky Old Motel”
Reviewed February 28, 2014

We stayed one night here summer 2013 on our trip around Colorado, mainly due to price, and the cute Bunny sign outside - just looked interesting! The desk staff was very nice, and helpful w/ information about the area. This is an OLD motel people ... like a place from an old western or something, but it added to the charm of doing something different! We asked for non-smoking room, and could tell it had been smoked in (I am deathly allergic to smoke). I'd imagine all the rooms have been smoked in at some point, and once it's there, it's there. We toughed it out, and the night's rest was decent. Bathroom was nice, spacious enough for two people, not bad. It's not a luxury hotel, but then, we knew it wasn't! Not a bad place to stay, for a night or two.

We appreciate your input. Your stay is at least 5 months old. (summer of 2013) Certainly, we are always concerned about any smoke smell. I wish we would of had a chance to address your issue during your stay. Cleanliness is one our main priorities. We have made some significant improvements and remodeling from when you were here. Late fall of 2013 we installed new carpet in the entire property. We added new bedding, linens and curtains as well. We are very concerned all of our non-smoking rooms are fresh and smoke free. Our staff has been in the motel business for many years. We are able to offer quick and a friendly response to all of our customers and refer to it as western hospitality.

We stayed here for one night on Jan. 10th-in town for business. Our room had a beautiful bath recently remodeled and new. Walk in shower, great water pressure, lot's of hot water and very nice towels. Comfort height sink and toilet. Room came with a frig, microwave, flat screen TV, extra pillows and blankets for the bed which is unheard of. Even the bed sheets were exceptional.

Front desk staff very nice. Continental breakfast was average.

Only negative comment is the bed itself-not all that great but we have stayed in some 5star places that had very uncomfortable beds.

Also, property is very quiet which is a huge plus for us.

We love this motel! The rooms look like they were recently updated, and the staff is always friendly. We stay here, because it's located across the street from the Old Town Hot Springs, and we walk across to warm up after a day of skiing. The free shuttle to the ski area also stops close to the motel. We can walk to shops and restaurants and can quickly get to the Yampa for tubing in the summer. It's easy to spend more on hotels in Steamboat, but you don't have to. The free breakfast is a bonus! This time, we were even upgraded to a bigger room for free!!! Our 10 year old always wants to stay at Rabbit Ears. AND we get to support a family-owned small business while enjoying a great stay.

Rabbit Ears got good reviews, but I was skeptical, especially when we drove up and saw those huge red rabbit ears standing out like a sore thumb. I worried about having an old fashioned motel experience. Nice surprise though. Our room overlooked the river. The view was beautiful. The room was great. Very comfy, everything worked beautifully. The soaps provided were wonderful. We weren't too crazy about the continental breakfast, but it was healthful, and I have paid more for worse. Next time in Steamboat we will stay at Rabbit Eats Motel. Oh, and it is across the street from the Hot Springs Pool, a very short walk from Natural Foods Grocery, and within easy walking distance of some very passable dining.

Room Tip: I really recommend getting a second floor room looking over the river.

Wanted to stay longer then one day, but the snow was on it's way. The one night stay was rather nice except for a few barking dogs in another room in the morning. Then there were two men having a conversation outside at 2 am about whether one of them was going to start up their motorcycle or car and rev up the motor. Oh well! It was cheaper then lots of places in town that I have stayed at that are closed now. Give it a try!!

I wasn't sure with the pink rabbit ears but the reviews were mostly all good. After I got there I found out that the motel has this name for Rabbit Ears Pass through the mountains. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. Also the breakfast was good.

We had to switch motels mid stay. This alternative was a very good one. It is clean, spacious with all modern amenities. They provide a good array of breakfast foods, free wifi and laundry facilities. Great shower everything you could need. They even provide a coffee maker. Would recommend this to anyone.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Luxury night's sleep minus the luxury price. The Rabbit Ears Motel, located in beautiful Steamboat Springs, Colorado, is your choice for comfortable, affordable lodging right in the center of downtown. Either they built Steamboat around our motel, or our motel was conveniently built in the center of all the action. So, both ways, you know that all the activities and nightlife the valley provides are in close proximity. Choose a weekend get-away for the family, or stay with us the whole week. World-class skiing with slope-side ski-in, ski-out convenience is expensive and overrated. Our motel is right on the main street and just a 5 minutes' bus ride to the gondola and the base of the ski area. Oh, and the bus is free. Lastly, all our guests are welcome to get reduced-priced Old Town Hot Springs passes for our recreation center, just across the street. ... more   less
