“Great value, great shuttle service, great location”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

Our ski club stayed in three 4 bedroom, 4 bath Phoenix condos over Presidents weekend for 5 nights. All condos were nicely decorated, clean and spacious. Kitchen was well equipped. Only a short walk to the gondola, restaurants and stores in the Village area. We were able to ski-in to just across the street and then short walk to our unit. Excellent shuttle service to lifts (if you were too lazy to walk) or to town - almost like having our own chauffeur. Reception was quick to respond to requests. Nice touch was the garage downstairs where we could keep our skis. Two hots tubs were nice for apres ski soaking although too many kids until about 5 p.m. and they are the shallow kind - we like the deeper tubs. Since we were a large group, we were pleased they let us use their reception room for our parties. They even hosted a welcome reception for us. Only annoying thing was being unable to adjust the heats in the units since there was only one thermostat to control the whole condo. When we go back to Steamboat, we'll definitely stay here again.

Thank you for taking some time to post a review, we're so pleased you had a nice time. The Phoenix is a great place for groups and ski clubs and we are host to many every year. The clubhouse was completely renovated last summer, so it has definitely been a draw for larger groups to be able to gather and spend time together. Thank you again and we hope to see you soon!

We booked room #130, a two bedroom, 3 bathroom unit. Our first impression was that the unit was dated. The blinds were dysfunctional, coffee maker had filters that were the wrong type, kitchen table lost its varnish down to bare wood, the trash can was too big for the trash bag, and the bathrooms in the bedroom were very small. Counter tops were tile (not awful) and of the 2 dvd players I couldn't get either one to work. The thing that caused me to give this rating, is the condtion of the bed and the linens in both bedrooms. Our bed must have been at least 20 years old and sagged in the midddle. My wife and I spent the whole first night tossing and turning until she finally couldnt take it anymore and slept on the couch for the next three nights (not the romantic getaway we were hoping for)! The other couple had the opposite problem, there was a big hump in the middle of their bed. The linens were old and frayed. If the owner of this unit really did anything to update this property from an interior standpoint, I would have given it a very good rating. The proximity to the gondola was fantastic, just accross the street and through a driveway. The exterior of the building was recently refinished and looked great. The clubhouse with a pool and 2 hotubs was very nice as well as the excerise room. One of the best amentities was the shuttle system. We never had to wait more than 5 minutes, and drivers were super friendly. The unit also had a heated garage to leave skis, poles and boots. The room was clean. The Skiing was fantastic, just a little tired from poor sleep.
We did complain about the conditions of the unit and the I guess the general manager offered to give us another unit, but it didn't look that much better and we were already unpacked, and had unloaded groceries, so we decided to stay. There was an ajoining room 130A and asked the condesending general manage to open it for the bed. She finally agreed but would charge us $80 more a night. Finally the last night she let us sleep in it for free.

PROS: Proximity to gondola, shuttle service, heated garage and clubhouse with hot tub and pool!
CONS: Dated kitchen, awful beds and linnens, tiny bathrooms!

Bottom Line: Wait for interior upgrades or another unit that might be better!

Hi Thomas,
I'm so sorry you weren't pleased with your condo during your stay at The Phoenix. I wish we could have done more to accommodate you. I have spoken with the owner of the condo and she will be making necessary upgrades this summer to the bedding, so we're very pleased about that.
Last fall we instituted an online booking system, so guests can see the condo they are booking. So far we've seen an increase in those bookings and it helps to alleviate any concerns about decor upon arrival.
I sure hope you'll give us another chance in the future and if you'd like to call directly I will be happy to personally book your condo next time.

Take care,
Amy Weeks

I stayed at the Phoenix for the first time as part of a group of 5. The condo was very spacious with 3 floors so it offers a lot of privacy for people who want to escape to their bedrooms for privacy. It has all the necessary ammenities including a garage, which we used for all of our ski equipment. Hot tub was nice a the end of a ski day although they only had one tub working during our stay. The BEST part about staying at the Phoenix was the complimentary shuttle service that would take you to/from your condo from pretty much any place. It runs every 5 minutes to/from the Gondola during ski hours and then by request to anywhere else. Average wait was < 4 minutes from the time we called. The drivers were also SO friendly! I also found the front desk staff to be very friendly and accommodating. We'll definitely stay here again!

Thank you for your review, we’re so pleased you were happy with your accommodations. The garages are a big hit with our guests and it sounds like the shuttle service was equally impressive. We get great feedback in our comment cards regarding the shuttle and how nice and helpful the drivers are too. I appreciate you mentioning our front desk staff as well, I couldn’t do it without them and they are a great crew!
I’m sorry one hot tub was down during your trip, while it can happen on a rare occasion we understand how important that is after a long day of skiing.
Thank you again for your kind words and we hop to have you back again!

We have stayed here for the last 2 years for a period of 7 weeks & 10 weeks. The 3 bedroom, 4 bathroom apartment has plenty of space. It's only a 4 minute walk until you hit the snowline. The fitness room has new equipment and the hot tubs are great. The staff from the front desk, right through the cleaning and maintenance teams are all delightful & helpful. The apartment we stay in is very comfortable & it feels like home for us. The only downside is that people walk through the block we stay in to go to the hot tubs and main reception building - they can be very loud with noise carrying up the stairs. We will definitely be back again.

My family and I vacationed at Steamboat several times back in the '90's, and my wife and I returned early this month to do some sightseeing and gold-panning around Hahn's Peak. What a great time! We stayed in Unit 225 owned by Bob P. and managed by Amy Weeks, and have to say that our high expectations with regards to the property were exceeded. Both Bob and Amy were very helpful and prompt whenever we had a question or request. The condo was roomy and comfortable, everything was clean and in good condition as advertised, and it was very quiet. Plus, Gondola Square is just a short walk away, and the pool area was well-kept. The complex is undergoing an expensive renovation now ( I believe it was built in the '80's). The exterior was remodeled last year and the clubhouse is being renovated this summer, so they're committed to keeping the property in good shape. I know my unit was.

Thank you so much for the nice review. It was our pleasure to have you as our guests last summer. The renovation is done on the interior of the clubhouse and I think you'll be very pleased. We have had rave reviews from our repeat customers this winter!

Take care and please call if you should need anything in the future!

We used Interval International vacation point to stay in this efficiency room condo and left after two nights. The check-in staffer was unfriendly and condescending not wanting to be bothered with questions. When we found our unit, parking was very cramped for larger vehicles. We learned all to quickly this was to be our view from our room as well. The carpets were stained and dirty in the hallways, and the stairs were cement with worn treads. Our room was clean but not as described. We had a queen bed not a king. The bathroom was TINY! We had to step behind the toilet to shut the bathroom door. The bathroom sink was next to the small bar sink in the kitchen. The refrigerator was a small dorm room type that did not get very cold. The room was hot and staff did not have any fans available. We did need to call maintenance to come shut off a buzzer that was going off every 50 seconds for over an hour and our sliding door would not lock. They did come relatively quickly and the problem with the buzzer was resolved but not with the sliding door. Long story short -- stay somewhere else.

Room Tip: Do not rent an efficiency apartment.

We visited Steamboat in March 2012. We stayed at the Phoenix for 1 week. Rented a 3 bed / 3 bath condo. The condo turned out to be just great. It was very roomy with lots of space for 6 people to feel confortable. The outside of these condos was recently renovated and looked fabulous. The inside of our condo was partially renovated with newer kitchen applicances and nice furniture in the living room. The bedrooms and bathrooms were not recently renovated, but the furniture and beds were in fine condition and comfortable. ( and I'm very picky about beds ) Them condo was pretty clean, but they could do better looking underneath the furniture. Our condo was quiet, nice for sleeping.

Pros: Just one block, an easy walk, to the base area and lifts. Shuttles are frequent, timely and friendly. The staff is friendly, Hot tubs and pool are in nice condition, clean and well kept. Nice common area with a pool table, albeit small. This is a quiet complex. Grills available near the pool area.

Cons: We ski frequently and at different resorts - the price of this condo was high. The staff was a little slow to respond to needs - probably not enough staff on site. There was a strong, weird odor in the stairwell, but this was not present inside the condo. Pool area closed at 10:00 pm, too early for us.
