Owner description: The Yampa River Core Trail is a seven mile, non-motorized multi-use trail that follows the meandering Yampa River from Dougherty Road through downtown Steamboat Springs to Bear River Park. Groves of cottonwood trees, excellent fishing, scenic overlook benches, and lovely picnic spots make this trail a great place for a leisurely stroll or a commuter route through town. Additionally, there are many parks and playgrounds and more miles of trail that can be accessed off of the Core Trail.

Be sure to walk, run or bike this trail that follows the Yampa River. Beautiful scenery throughout and it parallels the Lincoln Ave. Main Street. Stop in at the Botanic Garden about halfway on the trail for a wonderful diversion.Trail and garden are FREE but would be worth a fee.

The length of this trail is approximately 6 miles. It has been lengthened over the last two years and hopefully will be extended even further. I picked up the YRCT via the Walton Creek Trail which was close to the resort I was staying in. My round trip to and from the resort was about 16 miles. I also used it to connect with the Mt. Werner Trail. All three of these trails are paved. The Spring Creek mountain bike trail can be accessed from the YRCT as can an extensive and fairly challenging web of mountain bike trails near Howelsen Hill. But for sheer beauty and ease of riding, the Yampa River Core Trail cannot be beat. It is family friendly with many little parks to enjoy. One if its best features is access to the Yampa River Botanic Park. The park is free and there are bike racks at the river entrance. Whether you are walking, cycling, skateboarding, or in-line skating you will treasure the experience of this trail. Pretty much all of Steamboat is accessible from the trail so if you are in town, find your way to the river and you will find your way to the trail, its parks and attractions, and its beauty. Enjoy!
