“The Steamboat Grand is Absolutely Fabulous!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 19, 2010

I have been a member of RCI since 2001 and have stayed in many of the Gold Crown Resorts. Steamboat Grand is top quality! We stayed in a 1-bdrm. condo. The interior was very nice and spacious with granite countertops in the kitchen and an open floorplan with windows above the fireplace overlooking the mountain! Gorgeous! The Master bdrm. offered a 2nd fireplace and 2nd bathroom with a huge jacuzzi tub and separate shower! A terrace off of the bdrm. with more incredible views!
The staff was excellent and went above and beyond. The bellman, Martin went to a store and bought a new clip for my skitube after it was misplaced. The front desk staff, especially Tyler was super friendly. The guys in the ski storage were always helpful and extremely nice!
I was very impressed w/the Steamboat Grand and will highly recommmend it to anyone that is accustomed to luxury! The dining was great also: )

Came to the Grand back in January 2010 with a large group (120+). Package was $250pp for 2 nights, 2 lift tickets, and 2 breakfasts. The accommodations that were part of the package were the Parlor / Living Area (NO BED). While the room itself (and bathroom) were really nice (kitchen and dining area) the "beds" were awful. There were 2 "day beds" against the window, which was basically a 2 inch foam pad covered in fake leather, and a pull out coach with 2 inch "mattress." I normally don't complain about this and can pretty much sleep anywhere, but this was hands down the worst sleep I ever had in my life. I could barely sleep during the night and when I woke up in the morning I was stiff and sore head to toe. Knowing this now I would never ever book this room by itself. I would DEFINITELY put down the extra cash for a room with a bed.

On the plus side, the location of the hotel is great if you want to be slope side and you have plenty of places to eat and shop to choose from. The little bar/restaurant in the hotel had nightly specials and the food was really good. They also have a HUGE outdoor hot tub area which is a lot of fun and nice.

-Nice friendly front desk & arrival experience
-Parking is convenient & underground, or valet
-Room was awkwardly configured (small), with extremely large jacuzzi tub in bathroom
-Carpet so so
-Outdoor patio furniture is cheap as can be
-Bedding is comfortable
-No IPOD alarm clock
-Could hear full conversations from the connecting room.
-No desk in room

I paid an off-season rate, but would be very hesitant to pay above $225 for this hotel in-season.

The most absurd thing is how long is takes to change channels (3 seconds per), almost makes TV watching unbearable. All under the guise that it's for energy efficiency!

The Steamboat Grand is a comfortable resort with all the extras! The suite was gorgeous with large bedrooms, bathrooms and closets. The kitchen was modern with great appliances and utensils. The pool, hot tub, steam room, and spa were fantastic and used daily by our family. The restaurants had quality menus, value and service. Overall, the Steamboat Grand is an excellent choice any time of year.

I have only written a few reviews for Trip Advisor, but travel frequently. I so appreciate everyone's input and wouldn't dream of leaving town without a full review of Trip Advisor. SBSG is a wonderful resort with very pleasant people (Katie, Alex, Kamen). Have traveled around the world and have stayed in Best Westerns to the Savoy in Florence, Fairmonts and Ritz's. This is a great ski area resort with all the trimmings. I booked directly and received the best rate over all other on-line portals. Even though my husband and I stayed in shoulder season (September is pretty much gorgeous every year according to the locals-highs in the 70's & 80's/lows in the 50's) it was busy and fun, lots to do. Flights from Denver to nearby Hayden make it pretty easy to ski SBS. Wouldn't consider driving from Denver in the winter. Prices are good to Hayden and purportedly subsidized by SBS. We rented a car in Denver and enjoyed a very picturesque 3+ hour drive. It is not 65mph all the way so take it into account. Highway 9 off of 70 is the more direct route, although you would miss all the switchbacks and beauty of Berthoud pass. Amenities: shuttle is such a nice service running on the 15 and 45 past the hour. Free gym is very well appointed with Cybex equipment, cardio equipment and my favorite, a wet eucalyptus sauna (also have a dry sauna). Pool is very large with two large spas. Have to agree that the locker room is pretty standard, no fancy schmancy lockers/whirlpool/showers or lemon water and fruit bowls here - just the basics, but clean and servicable. Go to the hotel Spa for more. The hotel room, although compact, was darling with mountain view balcony, fireplace and really large bathroom (2 person jacuzzi) and several drawers in the vanity with good sized closet. They also have humidifiers in the rooms. I suggest you start using them on night one. The weather in SBS is very very dry and your nostrils will suffer (all the more reason to hang out in the steam sauna). My less than 5 stars for the room is only because of the size. Could have used a few extra square feet especially if I had winter clothing vs. shorts and sandals. Have to be pretty neat in these rooms, no flinging of personal belongings around the room. THE BED IS THE ABSOLUTE BEST I HAVE EVER SLEPT IN and I just bought a high end Beautyrest that I love, but this bed was tough to get out of in the mornings. There are 3 parking options (1) valet $25; (2) underground accessible by elevator $10; and (3) across the street (very close) 2 level structure - free. Gondola square is a 1 minute walk across the street. There are so many area restaurants per capita that is is difficult to chose, however, my favorite pub is Mahogany Ridge brewery & grill (the Alpenale and porter are killer) and only $4 per pint. Would be at leaset $6 in my neck of the woods. Microbrew beer is a deal in the area and oh so good. If you love raw ahi the $12.95 cerviche bowl with wonton chips is the best deal in SBS. The $8.95 appetizer fish taco is huge and would be a meal for any woman and a great one to share as an appetizer. The buffalo new york steak is really good, but you need to get it rare to medium rare. There is a Safeway that the Shuttle will take you to and a little market with deli and spirits a few minute walk from the resort. Went to the Strawberry Hot Springs - really wonderful), but would only attempt in good weather due to gravel roadway. Husband rented a road bike from Orangel Peel (fantastic helpful guys) and road up and over Rabbit Ears Pass (40 miles with about 4k-5k feet of climbing). This is definitely a mountain biker's paradise. But some really good road bike routes. If you are really hard core the Berthoud pass on 40 near 70 would be over the top - only for experts/semi pro type riders. Can't wait to return - hopefully during skiing season.

stayed at the Steamboat Grand Aug 2010, Great Resort, clean, classy , great beds and quality thread count on sheets, Prefect location right out side the ski lift for winter, parking free (in summer I dont know about winter) right across the street. This is located right at the ski resort the town is 15 min down the road. Free bus service (right out front door)every 20 min will take you down town to great restrants and bars shops.

The rooms are super clean and quiet, and the beds are really comfortable. Great hot tubs and pool, wonderful location and convenient shuttle service to take you into town. The only downfall is they only include 2 breakfasts per room, so when you stay with a family of 5 in a larger, more expensive room, you still end up paying for the rest of your family to eat. It's reasonably priced and a decent hot breakfast, but kind of annoying to tack on an extra $20 per day to feed the kids.
